I don't sync the calendars, I have calendar accounts. You just register the google calendar as an outlook/exchange account, and me as a me.com account. Works no problem. You can also subscribe to calendars.

The calendar and the contacts from an external source would go away completely once you turned off the account, and changes made wouldn't affect that calendar. I have a me.com and a gmail.com account synced with my ipad and iphone. If I turn off one or the other, the details from that account goes away completely. When you turn them back on, they come back.

I'm officially agnostic about who wins now, I'm ok with any of them. Maybe I'm in the "anyone but chicago" camp now... I've stopped hating philly fans. They're passionate, but well informed. Much better than a lot of caps fans, and I say that as a caps fan.

if you sync your contacts/calendar elsewhere, just turn off that account when you're using it elsewhere

your statements don't match the licenses for software on my work computer, which is a large gov't owned system. I've never seen a license which states what authorized users are allowed to use the software for, just that it needs to be restricted to authorized users.
