Server grade means drives with 5 year warranty, basically. I talked to the storage QA manager at apple a few years ago. They're REALLY unhappy with most storage vendors and their consumer grade gear. It breaks too often for apple's customer sat needs.

Making drugs illegal wasn't radical. It was racist. Because it was the blacks doing drugs when drugs were first made illegal. It was also to protect domestic synthetic rope makers against the external hemp rope makers. And the paper industry. It became a fund raising opportunity for police departments and prisons. And protected intoxicants as being the realm of big tobacco and the alcohol industry, while protecting the medical pharmas from self medication. So yah, not radical. The result is immoral. The result of the drug war is a police state, rampant drug gangs, "gateway drugs", meth lab toxic impacts, etc. The war on drugs doesn't benefit the people.

And they'd cook for themselves, not to resell. Since people who were buying could just go to the drug store.

Yah, next we'll have to legalize prostitution and gambling and stick to crimes where people aren't just hurting themselves. And if our cops and courts aren't overwhelmed with drug criminals, they'll be able to go after murderers, rapists, and thieves.

Are drugs worse than the drug smugglers and drug gangs? I don't think so. But more than that, I don't think it's the job of the government to decide if people do drugs, have sex, or do anything else that doesn't impact anyone else.

Good comparison. We've locked up people for doing something that only harms themselves. The flow of drugs hasn't stopped, and criminals get money and power. Just like with prohibition was successful in the 20s. I see how that's comparable to medical research. Ass.

My 12" g4 powerbook was dented in several places from where it got knocked off tables (toddler ftw) and kept on ticking. Modern laptops are fairly durable, unless you hit the wrong spots.

In this case, the ssd is more about speed than savings. If you want faster, and that thin form factor, you pay for the solid state drives. Early adopters pay a tax. The point of the macbook air is for road warriors and executives, etc, who don't want to carry a big laptop bag. It's not something I'm more than casually interested in, but that's mostly because I don't fly 500,000 miles a year anymore. As to the mac pro, sure it'd be nice, but I don't really tax my mac mini as it is. I could rip movies a little faster with the mac pro, but that's not a huge deal to me. I'll probably never buy another fast desktop. I'm not at all impressed with fast desktop computers, much in the same way formula one drivers probably aren't impressed by the subaru wrx. This isn't a computer for geeks, really. There are lots of those out there. This does have some really nice innovations tho, especially the multitouch touchpad and the ssd drive. I can't wait til those migrate into other systems. My goal is the 8" tablet. Thin isn't something I particularly need, what I need is small enough to fit in a hip bag, etc, so I can work from anywhere in a pinch.

VERY few people need 8 cpu mac pro speed. Many people want super thin light laptops.

The nikon vs canon pissing match. Any modern dslr is plenty good for any purpose short of gallery printing. Even 5-6 mpix can do 20x30 prints without trouble.
