Please help me think through my desktop system.
Hate to sound like a 16-year-old virgin (or a 13-year-old virgin -- or wherever the kids are pegging the mean these days), but holy shit these are a LOT BIGGER than I thought they would be! Would have to say they also sound a whole lot fuller than the previous set, though since those occupied (charitably) a fifth of the volume, that's hardly a giant surprise. Viva overkill.

Got an "L" of a deal too. (Sorry.)

TPA Buffalo impressions
Forgive my clanking ignorance, but what are the input options for this build and can it be configured for balanced operation?

Ipod Touch / Iphone
Yeah, sorry, the other options are phone functions (jump to favorites etc.) so it makes sense that the Touch doesn't offer then.

Ipod Touch / Iphone
You can set that to do a few different things if you want. Settings --> General --> Home Button is the path.

Ipod Touch / Iphone
Woot woot. iPhone 2.0.1 available now at an iTunes near you. Fingers crossed for less crashy, mainly.

What are you EATING right now?
Grilled lamb chops, corn, spinach salad.

Random noises through Mac's miniToslink output
What else is going on in your system at the time you hear the noise? Is it under heavy load from some other process?

Post the last thing you bought!
^ You'd be right.

Signed up to Beta test a new standalone video processor. Predict much futzing with buggy firmware to follow. If it's any good in the end, though, I get to keep it at a quite reasonable fraction of retail.

That what the obstetrician said. I wish I'd taken him up on it.

help between headoom harbeth and avi ADM9
Plus the AVI's have a built-in DAC. Very low tweak factor, which could be a plus or minus depending on how you roll.

MacHeads- Impending MacBook Purchase
Also, does the Macbook have a Firewire 800 port? The new high-speed Firewire protocol due in a few months will allow up to 3.2Gbps over current 9-pin cables, so that's shortly going to be a very nice option to have if you move a lot of data around.

MacHeads- Impending MacBook Purchase
Speaking as a shareholder, I can think of at least one quite compelling reason.

Ascend 170 are very nice bookshelf speakers at $350 new. They come up on Agon for a lot less. If you're using them nearfield, a $60 Sonic Impact T-Amp from Parts Express will get you to to earbleed levels.

Mac Users: How do you do your music?
PS: New version of iTunes in Software Update as of now. It is said that iPhone backups feel snappier.

Mac Users: How do you do your music?
I have a couple of pretty banged-up CDs that knocked around in my car longer than they should have. When I re-ripped everything to ALAC recently in iTunes (with error correction), there were no problems with them at all. Still, I'm tormented by the possibility that, in theory, Max might have done a better job.
