  1. Why is he still alive
  2. oh. well ill wait a few days before painting again then. wash it a few times in the meanwhile with water.
  3. the paint was perfectly fine before that. I sanded away the little dust that got on there when the paint was drying. I really could have lived with what i had but decided to go with one last light coat. no paint remover was involved at this stage. took it to home depot and the guy told me to go with separate primer and paint this time and suggested there might have been something wrong with the paint. which would make sense if it happened right away but this was maybe 10 coats in (5 prior to the removal). stripped it all down again to bare aluminum. will primer it saturday morning if i get time. bleh.
  4. so this happened today after I put on the last coat ...wtf?
  5. Libreoffice=open office. Google docs is screwing up the formatting too. Even though I don't know if that is bc they blew up when first opened in libreoffice. She used office 2007 for the documents created.
  6. question - my mom has a lot of .docx files that she created in ms office 2007 on a pc. some .docx files contain tables which show up all screwed up on libreoffice which i installed on her macbook air as a free/open source alternative to see if she could live with it as her main work processor. but pretty much all the formatting is screwed up. is it worth getting any apple native office suite (office for mac, iwork, neooffice etc) or should i get parallels and install the copy of ms office 2007 (pc version) on the mba? if i were to go the parallels route would i first need to install windows or could i just install the office software? anything other than parallels let me install just office without having to worry about another operating system? thanks.
  7. Dan I was reading about the duet 2 last night and it has features that I don't think I need (like oled everything) but I might be wrong. Are there any updates/improvements in the dac section or is it just a prettier duet with more input/outputs. I've never heard of the other dac you mentioned. Will look into that. Tmoney I don't have any dac at the moment. The Dacit is out then. Will read about the Arcam.
  8. Instead of starting a new thread I'd figure I'd ask here. With my thinkpad busted and impending shoulder troubles I will probably be springing for a MacBook air rather soon. I have a crack and a torpedo to feed. Unless the MBA does spdif out, I'm assuming I'd be limited to USB. I have heard and very much liked the emotiva dac. It is all of $250 shipped. I had a gamma 2 dac built by misterx which I found clean but too sterile. I've previously had a parasound 1100 I think which was ok. However of those 3 I found the emotiva to be my favorite. Were I to make to make a jump in the Mac pool, the apogee duet comes to mind as a highly regarded dac from a while back but it hasn't really been spoken of in a long time I don't think. Was it just the fotm? John posted the peachtree audio Dacit but I have a faint recollection of him not liking it (?) or maye I'm just imagining things. Cambridge? Schitt? Denon? Arcam? Budget of $600. Used is better. Should I just go for the emotiva unit for $250 or try something else? I'm willing to go the USB to spdif but would prefer to keep things to USB if possible unless there is a glowing recommendation for the former. Projected gear - MacBook air, torpedo, crack, hd650, Jh16. Might try some grado stuff since it supposedly sounds good with the torpedo. I have found them to be rather bright every time I got them so perhaps something entirely new...
  9. Fucking dust from the box flaps rubbing together ... Going to try the wet towel
  10. I have something similar set up now. I do see the benefits of having a much bigger box. Will see what I can find. I applied a thin coat last evening. Waiting until today to see how well the dust prevention system worked. Mom suggested covering the top of the box with a wet towel to catch the dust in the air and to prevent random crap from the edges of the flaps rubbing together and falling in. Thoughts? You are a few hours north of me. How long does it take for the paint to dry completely? Also how does one tell without screwing up the paint whether it is dry for it looks so to the untrained eye even if it isn't? Thanks
  11. We actually feed the white birds too  Not anymore.
  12. Got some paint striped as suggested. The thing worked like a charm. Got most of the paint off in one try save for some blotches but they were small enough to where I didn't care. I make a paint chamber as jake suggested by setting a smaller box inside a bigger box making a platform. If this doesn't work as hoped for I'm going to hang up the the case using some string. Applied just a single coat this time. Pray for me. Good to have you here jake. Some impressive work over on the other site.
  13. Thanks for the warning. Would it be advisable to try to fix it with sandpaper, failing which go with the paint stripper or just go with the stripper directly? Is dripping a sign of using too much paint? Or staying in the area too long? Or incorrect angle of application? Or applying the coats too fast? Thanks for the help so far everyone.
  14. There is a group of some 12 ducks that we feed everyday. This is how the fuckers repay me.
  15. Rust oleum paint and primer in one spray paint in a can. As long as what isn't epoxy? The paint or the remover? Suggestions?
  16. Could sand paper work for getting rid of all the paint or will I need any special tools? Steve, could you clarify, "feather the edges." I don't mind starting again. I'd like for it to be a nice clean job. I don't have a garage area but do have a little patio area behind the house and some big boxes. I was thinking for cutting out some holes in the box and putting it over the case the next time when I leave it to dry so the ducks don't have access. Anyone have better ideas on preventing dust from accidentally getting on the paint the next time?
  17. So I was working on the torpedo top cover and left it outside the house for the paint to dry. Awesomely enough a fucking duck put dirt and shit all over it. I have access to home depot and limited funds. Is there anything that can be done to fix this so I can start over or did the duck fuck it all? Thanks
  18. Happy birthday knuckleman.
  19. Got everything (almost) put together. Went to home depot today to get some screws for the iec module and other stuff but forgot to get the stupid solder lug for te safety ground now I must wait until day after to go though the initial testing. Bleh.
  20. Yeah but that would require just two more cuts to fix. Whoever said I was any good at math...
  21. Tom, have you considered using one of your big paper cutters with the wooden base and a big blade pivoted at one corner. Comes down in an arc like you are pulling a lever. We have em down here in office depot and FedEx kinkos stores. Cut the original 600 into 6 strips. Then feed all 6 at the same time and keep pulling the lever. Postpone joint pain for a few years you know and cut your cutting action down 6 fold.
  22. Happy birthday jacob
  23. congratulations ric and family
  24. The box from tom is finally in my possession as of 15 minutes ago. Holy mother of all things well packaged...Tom, I hope you don't take this the wrong way but you are insane brother man. i used to think I was a fairly cautious packer but you put me to shame and swept the floor with me. Still waiting on the parts from Mouser but put whatever I have so far together to see how it all fit and am quite pleased so far. I haven't had any financial dealings with Tom in the past but I can definitely see where he gets his good name from, and deservedly so. Hopefully the mouser stuff will arrive tomorrow otherwise I have to wait till Tuesday to stuff this puppy. Any tips before I do anything in terms of grounding or noise/hum reduction?
  25. Happy bday chris
