  1. i just got me a shiny new mba too. on my pc i was using dbpoweramp to move my flac stuff to alac to make it all iphone/ipad/itunes compatible. there are a few that i found for mac. any recommendations?
  2. I'm not home when it's on. And I usually just listen to it in the background while working on stuff.
  3. Happy birthday Dom. Where the fuck have you been?
  4. Are there alternatives?
  5. I meant 80C in the last post. Fixed now. Under no load it idles around 51C. Hovers between 50 and 52. I guess I'll try safari but I don't know if it will make a difference...take it in? Update...hmmm same episode playing for 10 minutes. Highest temp it's hit so far has been 70C and hovers around 67-68. Are there any known issues with chrome on MBA?
  6. macbook air going up to 80C while using word and watching the daily show on chrome. nothing else that i can tell is running. nothing processor intensive anyways. is that temp ok or should i take the machine into the apple store before mom leaves for india?
  7. Happy birthday sir.
  8. And today...is woot going the way of Kodak? Recently raised shirt prices too.

  12. Torn anterior labrum. I'm guessing what was a slight tear or a big aggravation got worse day before
  13. I just realized I am on some really strong pain killers...
  14. John might need you to explain this one. Was sleeping last night and dreamt the following. I'm in Tyrions house but not his real house. Strange furniture. Just a new place. I place my moms Minolta af e2 camera on the table and mike rotates all the knobs and presses buttons the camera doesn't actually have and then says 20 bucks. I reply with hey they sell for 175 on eBay. He offers 150 and I take it. Then 3 little kids go running through the room announcing dinner time and mike asks them to bring in their pet lion so that it may eat as well. I don't take him seriously. The kids run away and mike sets the table. And then I hear this low guttural growl from behind me. Turn around. It was a lion. And then I woke up.
  15. If you don't mind sharing could you post the hints anyways? If this doesn't get resolved I will probably have to get another case unless there is a way to get the powder coating off. The whole thing is useless if the sides don't mate. If there is a way to get the coating Off I'll try to do it correctly. Would be much appreciated.
  16. First place I called with good reviews on google quoted me 20 bucks for the whole thing to be powder coated. I dropped it off this morning and told the guy specifically not to coat parts of the case (grounding hole, insides of the bottom half and the edges which go into each other on the sides of the case). Guy calls me at 2 pm saying everything is done. I go to pick it up and the top plate is scratched to hell. They anodized the insides too so I don't know if the pcb will slide in anymore as it barely fit earlier. The powder coating has made the mating parts too thick to where they don't fit into each other. Everything aside the guy looked pissed when I asked him if the scratches could be fixed by sanding or some filler compound. I mean sure it was 20 bucks but does that really mean it can be done with no regard for a final product? When I brought up the fact that he had disregarded everything I told him to watch out for he threw the case on the table scratching it further and told me to get it wet painted instead. Gf was with me. She agreed I couldn't have been more polite. So wtf. Really. Wtf.
  17. At this stage it's more of an ego thing lol. Can't let a case beat me. I'll call around and see how much it would be.
  18. Why is he still alive
  19. oh. well ill wait a few days before painting again then. wash it a few times in the meanwhile with water.
  20. the paint was perfectly fine before that. I sanded away the little dust that got on there when the paint was drying. I really could have lived with what i had but decided to go with one last light coat. no paint remover was involved at this stage. took it to home depot and the guy told me to go with separate primer and paint this time and suggested there might have been something wrong with the paint. which would make sense if it happened right away but this was maybe 10 coats in (5 prior to the removal). stripped it all down again to bare aluminum. will primer it saturday morning if i get time. bleh.
  21. so this happened today after I put on the last coat ...wtf?
  22. Libreoffice=open office. Google docs is screwing up the formatting too. Even though I don't know if that is bc they blew up when first opened in libreoffice. She used office 2007 for the documents created.
  23. question - my mom has a lot of .docx files that she created in ms office 2007 on a pc. some .docx files contain tables which show up all screwed up on libreoffice which i installed on her macbook air as a free/open source alternative to see if she could live with it as her main work processor. but pretty much all the formatting is screwed up. is it worth getting any apple native office suite (office for mac, iwork, neooffice etc) or should i get parallels and install the copy of ms office 2007 (pc version) on the mba? if i were to go the parallels route would i first need to install windows or could i just install the office software? anything other than parallels let me install just office without having to worry about another operating system? thanks.
  24. Dan I was reading about the duet 2 last night and it has features that I don't think I need (like oled everything) but I might be wrong. Are there any updates/improvements in the dac section or is it just a prettier duet with more input/outputs. I've never heard of the other dac you mentioned. Will look into that. Tmoney I don't have any dac at the moment. The Dacit is out then. Will read about the Arcam.
