  1. This explanation by Tyll at Innerfidelity will explain it way better than anything I would ever manage.
  2. I looked more at the square waves and the impulse response. Those tell me a few more things about the driver performance than the frequency response. As you say, this isn't that bad, I'd expect them to sound warm and kind of lovely.

I guess this is a good place to post this until we have the "Free stuff thread". On this link you should be able to get an invitation from the Deutsche Bank, to attend the online concert by the Berliner Philharmoniker, season opener, which will take place tomorrow (August 24, 7pm Berlin time). There's a limited amount of invites.

  11. Considering the author of the mod uses Ed9 as main listening devices, I'd think twice before going too far with the scissors. The DX-1000 aren't definitive headphones, by no means, but are a lot of fun and can be driven by about anything. At $900, considering current madness about prices and quality, they're OK if one enjoys a bit of bass immersion from time to time. The only really important downside IMHO is the honky-boxy coloration which appears on some recordings in the voices. Some people, once find it out, might get really annoyed.
  12. OMG they're 1.5Tesla!!! What will be of the T1 Beyers? I think they've reviewed them recently at one of those audio magazines, but can't recall which one, they sent an e-mail but looks like I deleted it completely.
  13. Happy Bday!!!

  19. I've tried an unofficial Amarra Demo on ML and it was a bit buggy. Fidelia is a bit buggy too, but only if you try to create a library from files over the WLAN. Once set up plays well. Audirvana and Decibel behave better. Regarding sound, once everything is set up for "best" results, all they're quite similar listening with headphones (007, 009 and HD800) using the DA-11 on USB. Maybe on long term use I would be able to tell what I like better, but I'm not sure I really want/need to keep comparing them. Same could be said if I used speakers on that system, but it's too darn hot for tube amplifiers here. I think I'll end up getting Audirvana+ (I like the interface a bit better than Decibel's, but this is also good an inexpensive), but I wouldn't mind joining a group buy if Amarra can be purchased at a sensible price.
