  1. He can do much worse than the 805S. The signatures were the model I liked best out of the 805 series (not that I could pay much listening to the 805D though). With a smooth "tube like" (in the traditional sense) amp they sound enticing enough for me. I don't know how they'd perform with the amps he's considering. With the LFD Mistral (now discontinued) I found them enjoyable, but I'm afraid that brand isn't easily available in the US. Have heard other B&W speakers with Arcam amps and the pairing is rather good.
  2. Were your friend willing to purchase where required, I'd advice him the Merlin TSM, new or used. They're closed, easier to drive than most Dynaudios and B&Ws. Soundwise they have one of the best mid-bass responses I've heard on dynamic 2 way monitors. But if that's not an option, I wouldn't get any Dynaudio below the Confidence C1. Most others, even the S25 Anniversary have too much mid-bass response, which in a mid sized room would be quite troublesome to handle. I would advice him to try at home before committing to purchase them. If that's advisable with any speaker, I think that's more important with Dyns and B&W. I have listened to a couple of Triangle. Quite easy to drive, kind of "correct" but a bit in the bright side of things for my taste. I prefer Spendors, Harbeths, Merlins and even some Focals. No experience with Linn speakers at all Regarding B&W I agree with Dusty, they are the best selling speaker manufacturer for a reason. However I haven't really dug any of their speakers, from the almighty 800D to their affordable home cinema series. They are hard to drive, more for their impedance swings than for sensitivity. He'd need a competent 2Ohm compatible amp to drive them well. The 805 are very decent, I could probably live with them, but again, he'd better try them at his place before closing the deal.
  3. Yep, that was my initial thought when I first saw them, but seal, which is crucial to have bass response right, comes from fine tunning the pads position to adjust to your own head-ears shape. So you may end up with the fatter part a bit downwards. The seam is in the thinner part, so it would be placed to the front.
  4. I don't know if she really suffers a mental illness, I expressed my concerns about it before, but looks like that's her best bet for defense argument.
  5. I have little room to move the O2 around my ears, but I tend to place the drivers to the most in front I can. BTW, pads seam in front and upwards for me, more or less matching the arch of bone (zygomatic arch) going from the temporal bone to the zygoma (cheekbone). What I've found helps for a more frontal presentation is opening a bit the rear arch of the headband and closing the front one, so the drivers slightly rotate inwards to match the pinnae orientation.
  6. This one?
  7. LOL we've thought the same
  8. So it's just a big iTouch isn't it?
  9. With the script resizing the covers now are visible. I'll change the number of covers so they can be a bit larger. BTW, why some posts have long lines and others cut lines at about 70-75 characters?
  10. Much better this way Mike, I like it more, thanks. Now we just need to make the default type size in the quick reply box a bit larger. Edit: Any idea why my signature with the artcovers is much smaller than Reks' and what it was with the older VB version?
  11. One, perhaps silly, question about purchasing at Amazon using HC link. Do we need to carry on the whole buying process (selecting items, adding them to the chart and checking out) to get the bounty for this site or is it just enough that we check out some items which were placed into the cart beforehand? Maybe adding the items into the cart is just fine.
  12. Thanks, it looks nicer now
  13. Various Artists - Download to Donate for Haiti Quite nice, I've enjoyed the last track by the Dave Matthews band. You can download it for free, but it's nicer if you send a donation Then this other: Various Artists - Hope for Haiti Now Can be purchased at Amazon in mp3 or iTunes in AAC. It's been my first iTunes Store purchase, I suppose the music and the cause is worth overcoming my dislike for iTunes. The Bridge Over Trouble cover by Stevie Wonder is really killer. Edit: I don't know why the image won'tt display, link is correct and worked in other site
  14. I deeply hate it. I find this layout more annoying than HF's ads
  15. This thing is complete fail for me. Navigation is way worse since I need to open the drop down window completely to go back to the forum root or anywhere else. The font size when writing is damn small. Crap Hate it inmensely!!!!!! Moreover I don't give a damn f...k shit if the thread is hot or cold, seeing what's new or unread is more difficult, icons are very similar.
  16. I don't like it, much wasted space for smaller font sizes. I'm aging...
  17. I suppose the smart move is having a relaxed conversation with both "kids" to see if they've learned something, what are their plans, and knowing the real need of a second vehicle. Throwing money at the problem isn't a long term solution. If they're honest, aren't taking profit of their parents, and I had the cash, I'd probably buy a car that solves their problem until they have better income to afford their own, or can buy it from me.
  18. Really tight spot Aimless , I'm not sure what I'd do in your place. Probably it depends on whether the car is new or used. Were it a new car, I'd probably just buy them a used one to pass this winter, and let the new going back to the retailer. If it's a used one, then probably buying it so belongs to me, but I'd lend it to them until they can pay for it. Depending on how the take the "lesson" I might take possession of the car, but I wouldn't do nothing. Not sure, the background story makes a big difference.
  19. Happy Bday, have great one!
  20. Happy Birthday Sir
  21. Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli - Debussy Preludes Vol. 1
  22. no worries, we're just beneficiaries of your work, and can wait as long as needed Thanks for the update and the effort.
  23. Good idea atothex, otherwise it'd seem the project has died killed by the Pass one
  24. Thanks for the impressions. That AirTight sounds like a very interesting cart, though I'm afraid it must be damn expensive, isn't it? It could be a candidate to replace the Shelter when it (hopefully in a long time) dies.
  25. Right now: The Cars - Shake it up [MFSL] When it finishes, going to: Ray Brown - Walk On
