MY 57s are still stock, from 1984, and work perfectly. Just ask the owner to charge them for a day and go audition them at his place to see what the condition is like. Listen for any channel imbalance, popping, or hissing. I bet you'll like these speakers a lot. If they're in perfect working condition then they're worth between $1000-2300, it really depends on the local market.

I don't remember much about what Ed's Sigma/404 sounded like but I remember telling him it sounded more extended to me. I had both the Sigma and Sigma Pro and recently sold the Pro as I liked the normal bias model more.

ujamer what chassis is your layout for? Paesante dissipante 3U? And what are those three small rectangles near the transformer supposed to be?

The measurements I've seen of electrostats have shown pretty long decay IIRC so I don't think it equates to mudiness.
