Dan, I gotta get the needle-dropping going again. I got askew for some reason with the SoundBlade software and haven't gotten back on track. I will make the effort soon. Now playing: The Raconteurs -- Consolers of the Lonely Double Vinyl

It's one of The-Ray's favorite demo groups. Deep bass and uncomplicated sound.

Right on Mike! 4070 power! Anyway, the SR-Omega is a really great option to consider and a good pair should stay good unless mistreated, or so I told myself when buying them. I am going to set the 007t/SR-Omega & 4070 up today as a change of pace/counterpoint to the Luxmen.

Fucking moron with computer source question......

Not to pile on again, but Jim's post reminded me that I meant to point out this particularly closed-minded and completely hypocritical comment you made. You plan to stick with PCs regardless of the potential for better options, huh? Stringent indeed. -
Thanks for the responses. This guy wants an easy, one-stop solution so I am not sure that I can get him to search elsewhere. The shop has a few options but I really think that the B&W 805S, which he can get on a deal because discontinued in favor of the much pricier 805D, is his best bet there. I just don't know those other options.

I slogged through the whole series, which really lost its way at the end as you guys have recognized. For a reprise I read some of the stuff his son did, and it was really just an attempt to go back to the style/content of the first Dune books. Suggestions: Mary Doria Russell -- The Sparrow and to a much lesser extent the sequel The Children of God Philip K. Dick -- You should read The Man in the High Castle, but I also like some more off-beat selections like The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch and Dr. Bloodmoney. Kurt Vonnegut -- Cat's Cradle and Slaughterhouse 5

As one of the retards who chose to BUY the Amarra software and hardware with MONEY, I can say that I spent more time researching and considering those purchases than probably any other audio purchase I have made. I happen to live nearby their offices, so I met with the head of Sonic Studios/Amarra a couple of times, I got an early copy of the software for demo (with the dreaded iLok), I got a demo Amarra 4 to bring to a couple of meets including CanJam, and I compared the output of both in numerous ways. I also got JP and Ric and others to check it out and comment about it, and I took their similarly positive reactions to mean something. I then did more research and reading and made my decision. I've written about it numerous times on this site in the past. I have no doubt that the SQ I get from Amarra is improved over iTunes on its own, and from what I know about how it is built and what it is doing makes sense to me. I am not in a position to try to explain it to you other than what I have written elsewhere on this site. I don't care whether you need to have some kind of empirical proof for you to believe something works or is worth money, and I cannot provide that to you anyway. If you think there is a free/cheap/self-programmed way to get as good or better sound out of your computer, then have at it. But you can take your smug self-righteousness and your defensiveness about your PC and go fuck yourself with it. -
The range he is looking at is 1500 - 2800, and I am sure he could go a little higher if it is worthwhile. The problem is he wants the to be available from the same dealer as the Naim, Innovative Audio Video on 58th.

OK, a new question for the group regarding speakers for this receommended system. Decent sized room, but not huge. Local dealer really likes the Dynaudio Excites or the Triangle Comete (for bookshelf use especially because Comete is front ported). The NYC dealer is recommending Dynaudio Focus 140, Dynaudio Contour S1.4, B&W CM5, B&W 805S, and Linn Majik 109. I like the Cometes, the B&W 805S. I don't know the Dynaudio or Linn options at all, and I don't like the CM5 so I am saying no go on that one at least. Anybody have experience with any of these speakers? He is buying the Naim Uniti and Naim phono stage. Thanks.

I was sitting here listening to the P1u when you posted the caps/toenails comment, and noticed this post about quietness. The P1 is a silent, silent amp, and I had the same reaction as you. I have both of them hooked up right now to the same balanced source and nothing in the RCAs. The P1u has the plastic caps, but otherwise they are set up the same. I paused the music and listened on both amps with the HD800s. At 10:00 on the volume, neither was making any noise--no hiss, or what I call "presence" when you can just hear enough to know it is on. I then cranked the volume all the way on the P1u and there is only the slightest hiss/presence audible. It is there, but it is very, very faint. Also, the "sound" does not ever appear until 4:00, which is almost fully open (5:00 is the end of the dial). I then did the same on the P1 and it was FOUR TIMES LOUDER! Well, I'm kidding, but it is noticeably louder even though it is still very quiet compared to many amps. It also kicked in around 3:30/4:00 on the dial. Interesting. I also switched the input selector to coax and there was NO noise at any volume level on either amp. Pretty impressive. I don't know where to get the plastic caps for RCA and/or XLR. Elephas gave me some metal RCA plugs, and I know Cardas makes that type.

You only have a few minutes to edit that so think long and hard how it would go over with the "little woman." Hiring a bodyguard for your wife is very weird. How often will he be needed?
