You mean needs the touch of Yodah!    Its not soldered but laser lanced

"return to vendor for repair" is not uncommon in guru-centric brands.

Singlepower had the same shit running. If the amp is soldered without being blessed by the guru it may not work properly again.

*guru may not be strictly the correct word. I have a shitty vocabulary.

I for one would take my soldering over this blessed assembly...

Speaking of which, new input section:

Pain in the arse to drill though as it is all folded Alu.  Milspec silver wiring dating back to 1955... :)

his wire is the MIL-xxxxx teflon stuff that is available everywhere

Mine is the real deal, a gift from Kevin.  :)

Yep the real deal. I have 2 rolls left, about 3000 feet total.

Great stuff, massively thick silver plating on copper with

Teflon insulation. The date on the roll really is 1955.

Very heavy compared to current stuff.

Not the crap whiplash was using.

We take your 4-8-8-4 steam train and turn it into a mag-lev bullet.

Are you really a Big Boy or a Challenger in disguise?*

Sorry, couldn't resist that.

It's been interesting reading from the beginnings that I know of a Stoopid Opamp Hybrid Amp that cost $50.

* that's steam locomotive talk, btw, not anything derogatory. ;)

Big Boys were all 4-8-8-4s while the Challengers were all 4-6-6-4s (TomB knows that, I'm guessing).  I was a huge train nut when I was a kid.  Large steam engines were always my favorite.

Or you could go all out and check out the Head-Case of steam engines:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triplex_(locomotive)    Totally overkill (good) but did not have enough pressure to fully realize the third set of driving wheels for long distances.  Still cool as hell.

Whoa!  I did not know about triplexes!

Yes - you caught the reference.  Challengers were 4-6-6-4's. ;)

Some PSU upgrades:

Now the output has 20uf instead of 0.44uf.  I'm sure the PSU will act up somewhat but it is time to fix it anyway.  Also, terminal blocks... you know, if one ever needs to remove a PCB...  :palm:

Reworked the bias supply a bit and added a connector for it as well.

While I was installing the new 2SJ74's I decided to do some further modding...

Why use a transistors when a LED does a far better job and looks pretty at the same time.  :)

I'm listening to it now and things are improving.  Doesn't have the hard hitting nature of the KGSSHV but it is fast approaching neutral.

The U.P. Big Boy is indeed the reference I was making.  Truefax: I was a (model) train nerd in high school.  Let me tell you, railway geeks get all the chicks. ;D

I still have a couple Marklin trains in an upstairs attic.

For some odd reason I found that last gif somewhat disturbing.  :dotu:

It's pretty obvious to any experienced tech that someone went over many of the original solder joints on the Cavalli amp to make it look bad.

I suppose this post will be hypocritically deleted.

Someone who isn't you then?

I found it particularly noteworthy that Knucks deemed a picture depicting consensual oral sex in his thread was too NSFW, but that was not.  Knucks, I love what you do, but that .gif above is fucking disturbing.

Oh, and oldies, you are a fucking idiot.
