Now this you didn't see coming....

The 009 on the KGST is indeed just about perfect.  :)  We will see some further development of that circuit in the future as I have some ideas...  ;D

The circlotron will come but I doubt many will be crazy enough to build it.  The PSU scares me no end and it will be the first amp to have a very specific BOM as you can't just use something at this level.

Would cascading the output 10M90S's be on your idea list?

Loving the KGST with my SR-009s (when the Stax are working right).

James Lin insists that srx can be made much better with 10m90s cascaded into dn2540.

I have a board pending verification.

I have not heard it, so I don't know.

The difference between being better in theory and actually being beter...  ?

I have cascaded plate loads on small signal tubes, and preferred the sonics to single device CCS, or resistor. I was planning on trying it on my KGST, but now my new 009s are imbalanced. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Over on DIYaudio there are several threads about the 10M90S, and of particular interest was that cascading it with a DN2540 (not another 10M90S) gave best measured performance. I think that was from a Walt Jung article.

Over at Gary Pimm's website he has some measured performance graphs of various CCS.

http://pimmlabs.com/web/ccs_performance.htm

Near the bottom are single device graphs.

Locally he is a tech at Tektronics HQ (or was, haven't talked with him in years). He got me into CCS tube loads. Some of his later designs are more sophisicated.

For fucks sake....   Ohh well, back to finding replacements.

And replacements for previous replacements.  Well, good to see that the new subcontractors are all here at HC.  I know where to shop first!

Placed orders for 150 mpsw06 and 200 mpsw56 LRAG's which seem to be the only ones available for purchase. No buy it now option for mpsw42's need these for the older kgsshv offboard's.

What other semi's should I buy?

Edited by DefQon

can't you use the 2705, you only need a handful

I do have about 10 2705's but the on semi stuff are extremely cheap to pass up on.

One of these days we will have to go SMD or some mix of SMD and through hole.

for those interested int he kgsshv I just remembered that it requires 4x mpsw42

something else to stock up on

Way ahead of you...  ;D

No need to buy $200 worth of parts for free shipping or $40 for under $200 to us here in Aus.

RSComponents doesn't stock MPSW sand only MPSA.

http://au.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=mpsw42Has 3387 and 4132 in stock.

That is the stock even after Kevin and I bough enough parts for life.  :)

  • 2 weeks later...

wow did not see that coming, guess as was mentioned time to start revising for SMD

kgdynalobal7 is the all surface mount transistor version of the ss dynalo balanced.

yep, lots more surface mount in the future

  • 1 month later...

Would anyone mind sparing some mpsw56's? Waited too long to stock up and they've disappeared from mouser now...

Still available on RS-online

Thanks. Shipping from the UK is a bit steep though (double what 100x mpsw56's cost)...

Shit.  Apart from the MPSW transistors we're talking about here, ONsemi were one of the major suppliers of TO92 packaged transistors.

It does make you wonder whether they engineered the disagreement with their packagers because of a strategic decision to move to SM

It wouldn't work in the Dynalo Mk2 but other than that it will work.  The new KGSSHV boards have been updated with the MPSA parts in mind.

Plenty of mpsa's from Central in stock. Would those just be a direct replacement for the mpsw's in current kgsshv/kgst boards or is some other modification needed?

The MPSAs should be OK everywhere except in the Dynalo where the extra power handling of the MPSW package is required.
