Took my first stab at making paella tonight. A fun experience but the result turned out a bit bland in flavor. Basic elements were chicken, artichoke, green beans, lima beans, tomato, arboreal rice, chicken stock, smoked sweet paprika, garlic and safron. I think more tomato was needed, and I'll be on the lookout for different variations to try. Here's a pic:

I loved to get them when I was drinking and nothing else was open. There are a bunch of those stands in Manhattan that would be open till 5-6 am.

Goddamn, now I'm regretting having something other than a College Park Gyro for dinner earlier tonight. Which, if I had thought about it, I could have had. (Just about every gyro in the College Park area is at least half decent, including Pizza Boli's, who don't usually make gyros.)

Liquid diet weekend. And in an hour or so I get to drink 1.5 ounces of Fleet laxative to prep for a colonoscopy on Monday. Getting old fucking blows goats.
