^ Any good? I love Mel B but I will admit to be pretty skeptical about the new show.

I'm two episodes away to finish the first season of Tehran

Some things are good, others are rather poorly resolved. Entertaining so far.

Farmer Wants a Wife, the American version (Hulu). "Real stories" between "big city" "girls" and "real, authentic" "farmers" (cowboys, close enough) "trying" to "find" "true love." Hopefully I have all those quotation marks correct. You know how geographically hodge-podgy all this is up front when they introduce Oklahoma with John Denver and "Almost heaven, West Virginia" (see cowboys). Yet, unless I'm getting way too soft, you still kinda feel sympathy for all the participants (except the host and I'm sure evil producers).

Anyone watching the new season of Perry Mason? Doesn’t seem many are talking about it.

I never finished the first one but I'm not opposed to revisiting. My brother and sister in law love it.

On the second season of Your Honor

your-honor-season-2-poster-400x600.jpg

Pretty good, like the first season was to me. I've got a few episodes left.

The Night Agent (Netflix) - a well-done FBI/Secret Service-based drama series that avoids most of the cliches. Recommended.

Lucky Hank (AMC+) - Bob Odendirk's new dark-ish comedy. Two eps in. Pretty good, easy watch.

Yellowjackets season 2. Has not disappointed so far though somewhat slow moving...

Starting Great Expectations (BBC/FX/Hulu). So far, so good. They're making it easy to never have to read the novel.

Noticed the pilot is on YT if anyone is interested. It was a lot of fun.

Fleishman is in Trouble

I finished episode 3 yesterday. Not bad. The sad part is that it reflects a world that truly exists everywhere. Waiting for it to be surprising at some point.

It’s coming.

Joanne wanted to watch "A Spy Among Friends" , based on the book of the same name.

A slow burn, with great acting, as the layers of deception are exposed. It seems that you just can't trust someone you thought of as the right sort of chap.

Which segued nicely to another series that involved more class based scandal ("Sex, Lies and Spies" ) in the follow on period. "

(available on HBO Max  https://www.hbomax.com/series/urn:hbo:series:GX5iQpQtvkYCLtAEAAAPJ )

Plenty going on, Great Acting, and lots of details, where truth is stranger than fiction ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Profumo_affair

as it is says it the opening titles, you couldn't make it up.

You might be familiar with "that photo"

I mentioned starting Fleishman Is In Trouble, but now that I’ve completed the limited series I gotta say it’s really something. Give it a shot.

Watched 6 eps this weekend. Great writing. The kind that is refreshingly honest, but not annoyingly "smart", iykwim.

Caplan is the real star here, serving triple-duty as not only her own character in the show, but also as the omniscient narrator AND Fleishman's inner dialog voice. She kills at all three.

It was kinda fun to watch The Hummingbird Project (Hulu) right after.

  • 2 weeks later...

After finishing The Night Agent ( which we both enjoyed ) we segued into

The Diplomat

which we have now just finished.

Plenty to enjoy, aided by "Location Porn"  and  "Opulent Interiors"  ( it is set in the UK) .

Two prime examples being the new Embassy of the United States, London,

and The Ambassador's Residence, Winfield House, which although they correctly describe as being situated in Regents Park, and having  "The second-largest private garden in London after that of Buckingham Palace.",  The Skyline you see in the wide exterior shorts, while of London, is not one you would see from Regents park.

A bit of sleuthing (they didn't reveal all the filming locations in press releases ) revealed it to be Wrotham Park . I'll let them off.

Full marks for that ending

Spoiler

A twisty cliff hanger that you did not see coming

I'll let @Sherwood neither confirm or deny the accuracy of having to manage politicians with their own agenda.

Fully enjoying the second season of Schmigadoon!
