Obviously you need to build a wood-fired outdoor oven.

That oven design doesn't look very useful for making syrup.

Facsimile machine powered up and ready!

Yet another cheesecake. This one is to take to the MOA compound tomorrow.

I hadn't forgotten about them, but last I was there it was Dorothy's Birthday dinner, and I knew that Claire would be baking a Birthday cake.

Like my maccaroni dish, this is something I believe I've perfected over the years. We'll see what the judges have to say.

Also going to Casa Bedecarre.

This one for New Years friends and guests.

My first Coffee Cheesecake. It looks quite dark on top, but smells fantastic. Not sure if the coffee has something to do with the color.

swt61,

Those cheesecakes look AMAZING!!!

I bake once a year these days.  Cookies for the folks on my block.  This year I went with white chocolate macadamia.  I baked some proper looking "cakey" ones, but the ones that really sold looked like this...I kept the dough less cold before putting them on the pan.  Folks like the more caramelized edges I'm guessing.

I've listened to a few frankly pretty lame mystery novels set in Ohio Amish country and they often include references to Amish white bread. While listening to the audio books I often think that I should bake some sometime, and whenever I think about it I hear "Amish white bread" in my head like the chorus to Foreigner's "Dirty White Boy." 🤘🏻

With that background, here's my first attempt which turned out pretty good and made the house smell wonderful. Small pieces with butter, with homemade tart cherry jam and with homemade apple butter all were tssty. I'll try a sandwich at some point soon.

Decided to give homemade focaccia a try.  Made the dough last night to slow-rise overnight in the fridge.  Prepped and transferred to a metal pan for second rise for 4hrs this afternoon.  Just stabbed down, oiled, and salted and now in the oven.  Here's to hoping.

Simple country loaf, About 24 hour fermentation, and my scoring was crap.

Note to self -- Keep the induction cooktop away from the oven exhaust when I am baking at 500+ degrees...

To cater to the the lapsed/recovering Catholics amongst the Brits (Joanne included) the raisins were soaked overnight  in Bullit Rye to "plump" them. No candied peel at short notice so similarly soaked dried cranberries. Same story for "mixed spice", so mostly Sri Lankan Cinnamon, with a bit of Garam Masala. Orange and Lemon zest in the dough. Glaze was (homemade) orange marmalade diluted with the left overs from the soaking.

Using the oven with a pan of water filled from a kettle worked well as a proving oven.

Turned out nice.

From buns to bundts...

A Midori bundt cake.

20250420_074212.jpg

I used to make these in the 80's. I'd kind of forgotten about them. Made one Friday evening, for the Saturday crew. Now baking this one for the weekday crew tomorrow.

Remember Midori?

Well, the cake is a very lovely Green as well, especially since it also contains a package of Pistachio pudding mix.

It's quite good. I'm glad that I remembered it.

Remember? Midori was my gateway drink. Manly drinking hard liquor. Cake looks yummy.
