November 25, 200718 yr Of course there's the obvious "I want $$$$" answer, but realisticly speaking, what should I tell her? She's familiar with the cost/nature of the hobby, but I don't want to completely stray her away from ever buying me anything audio related ever again with some extravagant want. So what should I tell her I want? It would be for something primarily used at home or when on the putor like now. But I would occasionally take it out wherever. Again, not expensive. So I was thinking along the lines of lower end Grados, K240, HD555, K81DJ, RP21, RP22,etc. Something lower end that doesn't give you sticker shock but is a good call. Basically, sub $100. Oh, it'll be driven by a portable rig most all the time, so it'll have to be easy to drive, but respond VERY WELL to a portable amp.

November 26, 200718 yr tell her you appreciate the sentiment, but that you'd rather she pick something out for you. That you trust her judgement.
November 26, 200718 yr How about a stand, boxes/case to put phones in, or the like? Some people are just hard to shop for - giving a handful of ideas will still make it a bit of a surprise (or she may come up with something entirely new based on the suggestions). I'd avoid a headphone because you may return it/sell it later. It is easier to buy a desk humidor for a smoker rather than the "right" cigars.
November 26, 200718 yr Everyone always suggests MS-1. I can't argue with it, though. You could also hint and say you'd like to return the favor by buying her some shoes, a purse, etc., see what she tosses out (cheap like coach or haute couture) and go from there.
November 26, 200718 yr That should go over great, actually. Be sure and ask for some blue meat, while you're at it.
November 26, 200718 yr A blowjob. From her mom. Or her dad if you're into that sort of thing. "Not that there's anything wrong with that"
November 26, 200718 yr I'd avoid a headphone because you may return it/sell it later. The precise reason I have had my SO avoid buying me this kind of item.
November 28, 200718 yr Ah, and be careful. In my case it's not headphones but an amp. My spouse asked me what I want for christmas and I asked for an amp. Specifically for the Audio Technica HA5000 for my secondary rig. Well, her answer was : "Why not.You deserve it for your pleasure" Since then I wonder what kind of jewelry she does expect in return for her pleasure. Would have been cheaper to buy the amp myself, that's for sure.
November 28, 200718 yr depends on the mom Not solely. Been there done that and it wasn't worth the hassles with the dad afterwards. He was way stronger than me.Damned gorilla.
