My daughter (almost 12) is on the yearbook staff at her magnet school. Her grade went on a field trip to the Atlanta Aquarium, and she was one of four people allowed to take a camera. I set her up wit

I've hardly taken photos in the last however many years, but what I have been doing since I got this shiny M1 Macbook Pro is blowing the dust off my editing skills. July 1, 2006, the first

2009 was one of the craziest years of my life, paralleling 1996.  I should do a photo essay on it.  That'd take more time than I have, so here's a Cliff's Notes version. The year started fairly i

Of course. :D

Spent some time down near Wall Street with the 7D this afternoon. I still have a lot to figure out with this thing as it has one billion options but it seems to be a worthy step up from the 50D. I think it will end up being set aside for sports shooting as I really prefer the 5Ds for daily carry.

Longtime Head-Casers may remember me posting this shot in the Slow Forum ages ago.

Top_of_WTC_.jpg

The image is mislabeled, as it's taken from the top of the Empire State Building, not the WTC.

This is a great making-of video about the shot:

Three comments,

1- This is an amazing pic. What a difference 10 yrs make in the meaning of your explanation.

2-If the Chilean miners were in the pic, they will still be about a 100 ft above these guys!

3-These guys have balls of steel, they are probably debating what's the appropriate light bulb.... :D

ON an second note, unless you quote, the video is not visible.

Works just fine on my computers.

you are correct, don't know what happened first. I can see it now.

Went to the Hoboken Arts and Music Festival today for some lunch and snapped some pics of the Guitar Bar All-Stars playing. Not a real band but they were not bad.

Some pics from my trip to Seattle for the Head-Fi meet held there on Saturday. It was my first time in Seattle and I definitely want to go back. :)

Congratulations! You got there on one of the three days a year it doesn't rain. :P

It looks like you had a good time.

Yup sure did, I cased most of the major points in the city. By the time I left it was starting to rain though. :)

Looks like you had a great time, and where's the pic of the kid's mom?

Also, you've got spots on your lens or filter (see second and fifth photo).

Took this shot the other day as it was finally a clear night sky after all the rain we've had in NYC.

This was on my room outside of my bedroom window. Will go outside next time to use the concrete.

I didn't think to take a pic of the mom, just the cute kid. In retrospect I should have taken a pic of both of them. ;) Already knew about the spots, been meaning to do a wet cleaning of that lens for a while but have never gotten around to it.

Here's a snap from the new Nikkor 24-120 f/4 VR. Handheld at 120mm f/4 1/8", to torture-test the VR system.

Looks like it passed the torture test with flying colors.

I need to get some new glass.

Fall colours should be peaking in a week or two, time to see what Velvia 50 can do.

I need to get some new glass.

How about the new 8-15mm f/4 L fisheye lens? :D

I, for one, would love to eventually get 24-105.

I could imagine the 8-15 being interesting for about a week and then never used again.

I have been battling very soft pics with the 24-70 on the 7D. Great on everything else but nothing sharp with this lens on the 7D. I know I have to use the micro adjustments but for the time being it has forced me to dust off the 70-200 to stick on the 7D. The funny thing is the 70-200 is an easier daily carry than the 24-70.

Of course the flower pics.

And a couple boring City pics.

Argh, I really need to go out and take some pics, especially since the weather's cooperating this weekend for a change.

I looked up the dimension on 24-70 since I've never handled one before and the lens weighs more than gripped 50D. Of course, 85LII, the lens I'd love to try someday, weighs even more.

Sitting in the queue to get into the Bronx Zoo parking lot for a day with the photographicating.
