April 25, 201115 yr comment_443580 Just watched ep 1 after listening to the audible book up to about this point and while the HBO version is great it pales in comparision to the book. The visuals are grand but it lacks the detail that the book brings out that makes the story up to this point great. Report
April 25, 201115 yr comment_443587 First episode owned so much. Boromir FTW!! Hopefully HBO will do the other books as well. Report
April 25, 201115 yr comment_443653 For you guys listening on audiobook: What do you think of the narrator? Most people evidently like him but I am not a fan of Roy Dotrice. I am looking forward to the 4th book which is narrated by one of my favorites: John Lee. Report
April 25, 201115 yr comment_443719 The second ep was really good, and not just because the douchey little prince uses my trademark catch phrase (albeit in a way I myself would not use it). Shattered dreams everywhere, more sex, and direwolves ftmfw! Report
April 26, 201115 yr comment_443936 Sorry Al, just watched the episode and the catch phrase isn't coming to me. Edit: Was it "My princess can drink as much as she wants"? That's just wrong Al. Edit again: Duh, just realized it. Forgot the word was even in there. Agreed that the credits are awesome. And I too exclaimed "Boromir!". Downloading the book but jesus, 33 hours? I suppose I'll be listening in the truck. Edited April 26, 201115 yr by NightWoundsTime Report
April 26, 201115 yr comment_443940 I just can't get into audiobooks. Reading with my own voice allows me to paint a better image in my head, even though some of the narrators I've heard were pretty good. Personally didn't care for all the drama involving children in this episode. Report
April 26, 201115 yr comment_443943 You may want to stop watching, there is a lot of drama with the children. Report
April 26, 201115 yr comment_443946 It was really a minor complaint, and I understand it's necessary given the bloodlines. It was still a good episode, but I don't mind character introductory episodes if done well like the first. Report
May 1, 201115 yr comment_444787 I really liked the second episode there were several key elements missing that were great from the book. Mike suggested that listen to the book then check out the HBO mini series. Right now I'm listening to right about where the episode should end then watching. While it's great to see the visual representation directly after reading it is distracting when things need to be cut or combined for the screen. The book really is magnificent and I'm liking the audible the reader to me has done a great job. Report
May 2, 201115 yr comment_445035 Mike, what's the word on how far HBO is going to go with this series? Seems like this could go a while. What kind of time frame will the book series cover? Also interesting comparing it to The Borgias. Very similar tone, themes, and images. I think they both have their strengths, but will concede that Thrones has less flaws. Report
May 3, 201115 yr comment_445146 It's renewed for its 2nd season. Each season will cover a book. HBO is usually good about keeping good series running regardless of rating. Report
May 3, 201115 yr comment_445171 That's great that it's been renewed. I was not aware of that. I think this season is 10 episodes. I am really enjoying it but I am happy I read the books. As Jp pointed out, there is so much missing from the series. I would encourage anyone that has not read the books to start. You will not regret it. Report
May 3, 201115 yr comment_445181 I picked up the 4 books that are out now and started reading last night. Loving it so far even though I'm just filling in the gaps of the episodes I've watched. Report
May 3, 201115 yr comment_445185 I suspect you will have the first one done long before the series is over. Report
May 5, 201115 yr comment_445536 Yeah I'm giving up and going in for the real book. This reader just can't keep me interested. However if I ever find myself unable to sleep... Report
May 6, 201115 yr comment_445640 Book is awesome so far. It's Friday and all I want to do is go home after work to read! Report
May 6, 201115 yr comment_445644 Watched the first three episodes over the last two days. HBOgo + iPad FTW. Report
May 6, 201115 yr comment_445674 Ordered an early edition of the books off Ebay. I hate when publishers turn the book designs into photographs of the TV/movie characters when a book adaptation gets big on film. Report
May 8, 201115 yr comment_446051 Heh. My LOTR trilogy is an ancient document from the 70's, having been read many times over by each member of my family. I couldn't imagine reading it any other way now. Maybe I'll hit the whole set again soon and then make sure it gets passed to my sister. Report
May 9, 201115 yr comment_446229 Ep 4 was really good, although the "winter is coming" refrain is getting old. Bring it on already! So far, every other episode is good or perhaps just the even numbered episodes are good. Report
May 23, 201115 yr comment_448471 Sarah Connor is quite the bitch. I liked her better when she was trying to save the world. Report
May 23, 201115 yr comment_448472 Were Loras and Renly gay in the books? I don't remember that being the case. Report
May 23, 201115 yr comment_448475 Sarah Connor is quite the bitch. I liked her better when she was trying to save the world. She was greatly missed in Terminator 3 Report
