There is a solid piece of PVC film that should keep everything out.  If that fails then the drivers are pretty much scrap.

Arrived yesterday and it really opens up every electrostatic headphone that I own. I was looking for an amp that can bring more bass out of my HE90 than HEV90 so I drained my pocket to bid on this and

  • I have been getting back at this..working up to a limited run of these as the STAX SR-X9000 and Audeze CRBN have made that need to happen. But the chassis is extraordinarily expensive and difficult to

  • Isn't everybody glad that I'm crazy enough to buy this stuff and have Kevin rip it apart?

So what you see thru the grill when the foam is removed is this PVC film. So the foam is just another level of protection.

I see, and now know a little more about my phones.

two new prototype portable headphone amp models designed to partner with the SR-002 portable electrostatic headphones. One amp is analog input only, the other provide digital inputs for USB and iOS devices.

New customisable ear tips for the SR-002

prototype transistor electrostatic amp for home use slated to fill a slot above the current $450 SRM-252. The new unit (as yet unnamed) will have unbalanced analog, and USB and iOS digital inputs.

I would guess they will be made by edifier in China not Japan from one of Stax's normal suppliers.

The prototype desktop amp looks rather odd with its meter on the front! Apparently has apple ipod and usb inputs.

99% chance that it is made in Japan.  The Chinese are all too aware of the benefits of doing that...

Scoot, there's some more info on that one in the video.

I want that new portable... I <3 the 002s.

**BRENT**

That looks pretty cool. What is it?

The amp slotted between the SRM-252S and the 323S.  USB dac built it...

Oddly it says SRM-212 on the back....

SRM-212 interesting. Maybe regulated PS like that other SRM model can't think of it at the moment.

It has a DC plug on the back so it has to use a switcher to generate the HV.  Whether it is regulated or not I have my doubts as Stax only regulate when they absolutely have to.  In the SRM-300 they were running the output devices right up to the limit

That seems to be the current going price for the mk1s, I wish the $ differential between 007 and 009 would decrease a bit so I could try the latter.

Considering nobody seems to want the mk2, sellers could certainly ask for more

I think for the performance and rarity it should be commanding >2k, but I'm not complaining.

What I will complain about is the last pair I bought, SN70111. The imbalance between left and right is driving me insane, and I have very little interest in installing dual pots in every one of my future builds. Luckily the 323s has a balance control, which I only discovered recently.

The illiquidity of this unit is pretty much why I didn't pick up the one you posted, Justin.

Given how good the Mk1's are then they should fetch far more than the current market value.  Well that and nobody wanting the Mk2's unless they are the very early ones.

Ouch on the channel imbalance, that's not fun.

Damn it! I just bought a Mk2.5 for about the same price :( oh well, I still love 'em :)

Well if he's inside the EU then he's paid 20% VAT (well should have though there are ways...) which would account for some of the difference.  Still it's good to buy from Justin as the stuff doesn't loose any value. :)

I'll go off and pet my custom BHSE...  ;D

what's custom about your BHSE? I hope it comes with a spot to cook eggs
