Audeze LCD-2

Yep. It seems as though they used an oil or wax finish. I would most likely deconstruct them to apply a sturdier finish. Probably a multi coat Tung oil based finish. That would also allow me to copy the wood housing with one from Ebony, Cocobolo or something a bit more unique.

  • First off, why is this in the LCD-2 thread?  Second, the 727 has 350V rails so it can't really produce enough voltage to kill the drivers.  Now there are two main ways to destroy electrostat

  • The LCD-4 is twice as good as the LCD-2, and 1/3 better than the LCD-3.

  • Or a special edition that goes to LCD-11

Glad it is out, but definitely more than I had hoped. At the initial mentioned price, I would have almost certainly given it a shot, but at nearly 50% more, I will need to wait until I hear it, and probably look for a used pair.

Exactly my thought.

ok, I feel the love again... just talked with Alex. Steve, when will you have the "cans-with-headphoneaddict-like-description" in your hands?

Huh?

I'm not following the joke, but assume you mean the TPs? If so, Don shipped them today. What's up?

I'm not following the joke

"dBel84 tuned, N_Maher cabled, smeggy created, Macassar Ebonied Thunderpants"

:)

well they'll certainly be very different, them being open and TPs being closed. The Audeze probably has twice the driver surface of the Fostex driver, sadly that price will put them out of reach for a while.

Oh, duh! :) So I'm not the smartest, my job is just to look pretty. :D

LOL at quote

as for the LCD2 - not anticipated but not unexpected. I wish I could explain what I hear more vividly. To me it is like all the vintage orthos bundled into one mother load. My vintage orthos are friggin good, and in part, they rival the LCD2 but not one does it all and this is what we have all been striving for in the ortho world - the one that gets it right. I am afraid the LCD2 does it for me.

..dB

one day they will do it for me too. I feel bound to get a set.

I just can't resist a steampunk-styled ortho, especially one that hopefully sounds as great as I expect the LCD-2 to do.

Trade-in is more than fair I think.

(I need something with more bass extension than the LCD-1. I hope the LCD-2 will deliver.)

WTF, more headphones to add to the list to try and kill the HD-800s with? Meh! :o

I like the look of them. Specs say they 91 dB/mW, so does that mean lots of current will be required most ideally?

Have you seen the frequency response graph? The bass extension is off the charts.:o The treble, on the other hand, needs some help.

Will that affect air or sparkle or headstage then? The LCD-1 has plenty of that, but lacks bass extension IMHO. (I can't afford to have both the 1 and the 2) For the price of the LCD-2, I'd like to have it all.

Pretty sure I'm still in for a pair, but I do plan to listen at CJ first. Heck I guess I could always sell Marc's Krell integrated that's sitting here. :D

Where's this FR graph? The only pictures on previous pages said "No longer available". :(

you wouldn't want to separate two lost lovers that have yet to be united?

Sure it will affect those, 6-10dB off from the bass/mids will do that. But how much it will effect those things remains to be heard. The waterfall plot they have posted is just a thumbnail with no link the big image, which I'd be curious to see. The back grille seems to be easy enough to unscrew and mess with damping, which will limit bass extension, but who the heck needs bass extension to 5Hz? :D And agreed about number 2).

From what I hear from Don, most of you will be quite happy with them in stock form. And according to Don they're quite well balanced. I'm glad that CJ10 is so close, as this is one headphone I'd really like to hear sooner as opposed to later.

For 950, I want them tuned to sound great out of the box!

Not so small waterfall now? (but what does it all mean.... ?)

It's incredible, it displays OK here. Anyway, despite the smoothing and all, the graph is impressive. I'm willing to read your impressions, I hope you manage to try them at CJ.
