April 26, 201115 yr Looks well thought out. Of course, bespoke + laptop + camera is a weird combination.
April 26, 201115 yr Thanks for the nice comments, And Mr 909 you asked for it you got it: Amicalement thank you. it's not only visually stunning, but also looks like it provides good organization for your stuff. Edited April 26, 201115 yr by 909
April 27, 201115 yr Seems like a nice camera bag (though I admittedly knows nothing about camera bags): http://www.onabags.com/store/men/the-union-street.html#black It looks really good, but as Shelly says, it will be a bitch to carry. All that glass and electronics quickly gets real heavy. Maybe good for short walks in an urban environment, but backpack is the only real option when carrying that much gear. Lowepro's got a good collection, and a nifty tool to help you choose. The CompuRover AW is on my current shortlist.
May 3, 201115 yr New smaller version of the Think Tank Retrospective bags. I think I am going to get one and sell my Crumpler 5mdh. I love the Retrospective 10. Think Tank Retrospective 5 (ED: 10" W x 8.5" H x 6" D) Edited May 3, 201115 yr by shellylh
May 3, 201115 yr ^ That looks really nice. I wish they made a version of Retrospective that can fit a laptop, especially now that my current laptop bag won't fit my new MBP. Edited May 3, 201115 yr by Salt Peanuts
May 3, 201115 yr I think the 30 will barely fit a 13" but definitely not a 15". A laptop/camera Retrospective would be awesome. Although I am not sure that I would want to carry a laptop and DSLR in a shoulder bag. Edited May 3, 201115 yr by shellylh
May 3, 201115 yr One of those 10s should be mine pretty soon. Perfect day tripper/shooter But that rain cover solution seemed unnecessarily complicated.
May 7, 201115 yr Used the Tom Bihn Aeronaut and ID on my trip last week (6 nights/7 days/3 locations). It was just about the perfect size for that trip (and kept me from overpacking). I think the Tri-Star would have been much too small. Also, the ID is an awesome shoulder bag and holds a ton of goodies!
May 11, 201115 yr Anyone has a suggestion for a bag/briefcase to use with a 15" MBP? Nothing fancy, as long as it can protect/carry the MBP and power brick, that'll be fine. I'll probably be pcking up a Sling-o-magic 30 but figured I should looh for a laptop only bag to go along with it.
May 11, 201115 yr red oxx metro, bihn makes several, mountain smith tour, a million others. 15" MacBook is an easy size to find a bag for.
May 11, 201115 yr I know I am going to sound like a faboy but the Tom Bihn ID + Absolute Strap is a really nice 15" MBP bag but maybe more than you need. It is much nice than I thought it would be until I used it. Speaking of Tom Bihn, they will soon be having bags 1050d ballistic nylon in Navy http://www.tombihn.com/blog/node/1792
May 11, 201115 yr Samsonite? I have a simple, black, leather laptop bag that has held up for years. It has a little divider to make my 15.6" Sony fit more snuggly without moving around, and the floor wart power supply fits nicely in the remaining space. It's got just enough structure to it to protect the laptop from the usual bumps and bruises, without being prohibitively heavy. I.E. it's not just a polypropylene sleeve. I'll look up the company when I get home. I want to say I spent $30 on it. I'm pretty hard on cases. This one has lasted so long because it's impossible to overfill, which is where most of the wear on the strap comes from, in my case -- the weight. So yes, it's probably good to get a laptop-only bag.
May 11, 201115 yr Also, if you want a laptop only bag, STM makes some decent and fairly cheap ones. I use the medium "jacket" as a case but it also comes with a minimal strap and has a pocket in front. I would have to check to see if the power brick would fit in the pocket though. http://www.stmbags.com/catalog/laptop-shoulder-bags/
May 11, 201115 yr Tom Bihn just announced that they've the 1050d ballistic nylon now in navy. I wished I'd waited so I could get my tri-star in navy. Is it bad I'm still considering it?
May 11, 201115 yr Is it bad I'm still considering it? No. Also, you could probably sell your black Tri-Star on ebay for not much of a loss (if you wanted to deal with that). I bet you could easily get over $200 for the Tri-Star. I have seen Aeronauts go for over $200 but they might have had an Absolute strap (but a new Aeronaut is only $220). Also, I haven't seen any Tri-Stars selling on ebay lately. Edited May 11, 201115 yr by shellylh
