2011 CA Audio Show (NorCal) and THE Show (SoCal)

Featured Replies

Looks like it'll be a great year for audio shows in California!

THE Show - June 3-5: http://www.theshownewport.com/2011n/mainpage.php

in Newport Beach @ Hilton Orange County Airport

CA Audio Show - July 15-17: http://www.caaudioshow.com/

in Burlingame @ Crowne Plaza SFO

Already have my flight booked for the CA Audio Show in NorCal. Would have liked to go to the THE show too but the timing is bad for me on that one. Hope to run into some HC-ers either way, I'll most likely be there only on the Saturday 7/16 though (small chance I might also be there on Sunday 7/17).

Thanks for the heads up. Will have to look into the CA Audio Show...

I not been to one in a long time.

Cheers,

Mikey

I'll keep 'em in the back of my brain. I have no idea what I might be up to by then.

I went to CA Audio show last year and it was pretty fun.

Plenty of cool gear but not so much that it was overwhelming. Sometimes at the really big shows like RMAF, CES or the old Stereophile shows (all of which I been to several times), you get pounded with sound, good and bad, till you have a hard time listening to anything but first impressions.

That one was small enough that you don't feel rushed and you can do some real "deep listening".

I am trying to get a group to attend the Newport Beach Show, should be fun.

Just 3 more weeks until the THE show in SoCal, who's going? My schedule for that weekend has since freed up but not sure I'm going. If a group of HC'ers is planning on being there that could definitely tip the scales for me.

I saw HeadRoom is going to be there and Tyll's supposed to give a seminar there too so craziness is guaranteed! :P

I've been getting their marketing newsletters btw and they have some other stuff going on too:

Live BluePort Jazz Festival and Recording Sessions! Huge Marketplace for Software and Accessories!! And MUCH MORE like a Classic Car Show, Special Napa Wine Tasting, and Imported Cigar Show outside on the patio!

I will be headed to THE Show this year! It'll be my treat to myself since it falls right on my birthday. I was hoping to meet the dealer I bought my Atma-Sphere MP-1 pre-amp from who will be showcasing his cool new turntable (http://www.galibierdesign.com/).

I'm scared of what i'll be hearing there and probably need to lock my wallet up before going to the show ;)

I'm planning to be there. This will be my first show of this kind, and I'm really looking forward to it. I've always wanted to hear a nice MBL setup, and this should be my chance!

Heading there in a few minutes, bringing the R10s and HD800s, hope to run into people.

I'm most likely heading off there tomorrow morning in hope that it will be a little more quiet :)

Spent some time with Andy this AM before Jorge and I took the stage. I think I said, "It's good to see you" four times.

I love it when I get to spend some time in meatspace with you guys.

It was good to see you too Tyll :)

Your part of the talk was quite informative. Attached are some pics of the OG (our future prez).

I just wish I had your comments about Monster and Ultrasone on video. That was priceless.

This was my first and probably last speaker show. It was interesting, but too many people, music was lame, and the noise was crazy. I did like a few rooms/speakers - YG, PBN, and the ones in the On a Higher Note Room.

Listened to the HE-6 and HE-500 at the HeadRoom table which was really noisy, even first thing in the morning. The HE-500 did not impress me but it was hard to tell. HE-6 seemed slightly better.

We were fired up on the way home and Tyll's measurements of the LCD-2 inspired us to stop by the DXC store in Culver City and compare the LCD-2 to the R10, HD800 and T1. The LCD-2 were very good but surprised me a bit. With Classical I thought they were very good, but on tracks with more bass it was a bit much for me. The opposite of what I was thinking. I guess I am just not a bass-head at all anymore and prefer less. The music and equipment were unfamiliar (Music Hall 25.2 stuff) so I would have to try them in my system to be sure, but I may pass altogether.

I was a bit surprised by the bass as well, made them really fun for rock. John said they are fairly forgiving headphones and with the bass emphasis and laid back treble I can completely understand that.

T.H.E. Show Newport Beach.

Excellent Show. Photos first and impressions later.
