  4. I'm really thinking that they "gimped" the 007s design on purpose.... They moved away from the gold plated fiberglass electrodes to what appears as aluminum electrodes just like 009 and Lambdas. The outer area that was solid on the previous iterations of the 007 have also been reduced probably to reduce capacitance, but this decreases the damping on the membrane. I'm sure that the new 007 probably presents with a degree more of that midrange "rising response" that we see on nearly all the other STAX using similar design philosophy and brighter treble. The pads now resemble the dimensions of the 009 especially with the uniform opening. I think that a big part of the 007 sound was the D shaped pads which would distribute front volume modes better than a uniform circle.... The 007 was a distinct tuning in the line-up and they for reasons only known to god put it in line with the rest... Some sorta 009 lite design. I can't say I really like STAX sacrificing the engineering of their older models for "easier to drive" alternatives that don't sound as good....
  5. Beautiful fare! What did you stuff the dates with, Grahame? HS
  6. I guess he gave up the ghost when he heard Dr. Demento announce his retirement and the end of his show.
  7. Had some friends over. Started with this. Lots not shown. Ended with this. (Ice Cream not shown)

  11. Happy belated birthday Antonio!
  12. Muchas gracias, chicos A nice day. One year less to retirement. So tired…
  13. No idea as I've never had a broken set here to experiment on. Based on this set the coating is definitely helping and I'm about 85% balanced now. The plan is to rewire them and see how much that changes. I'm not a fan headphones being out of phase in general, I always reverse it on HE60's when I work on them as they are also wired out of phase from the factory.
  14. Tom Lehrer, song satirist and mathematician, dies at 97. Also, Tom Lehrer was still alive.

  16. EDIT: Penalties! EDIT: Sorry, Antonio.
  17. I should have more than enough left over Baltic Birch plywood for a splining jig accessorie and even more. T tracks, hold downs (another set of hold downs packaged with the long T track), knobs and a stop. All of this will make more sense once the jig is completed. Plenty of leftover Black laminate (I assume from the chop saw station), and some Ipe to build the bridge part of the jig, that will overlay the existing SawStop fence.
  18. Happy Birthday!
  19. Brother came up this morning on his way to his place in NH. Dropped off 2 bottles of Ardbeg 25, plus additional surprises! The Ardbeg 25's come in a lovely Russian Doll type box set, the inner box has a nice metal design on it. The top of that inner box looks to click open and close on a hinged cover. The Smokiverse is another limited edition, this was an open bottle from a sampling day that one of his clients had. Looking forward to trying it, there's only a tiny bit left.
  20. Happy birthday/Feliz Cumpleaños, my friend! (ruido de favores de fiesta)

    Stax plug

You can't plug normal bias headphones into a Pro bias output, that will just blow them up even on trash like the D10. If it is just the plug you want to modify, no you'd need to connect the left side bias somewhere in the cable as it is only connected to the center pin.
  22. Happy birthday!!
