I dropped by the bookstore today on my way home from work and leafed through a copy of the Stereophile "Recommended Components" issue. It was depressing, and quite unbelievable. For one thing, there's an average of 10-15 components in the "Class A" list in every single category of gear. This is close to and in some cases exceeds the number of components listed in "Class B", and in all cases it exceeds the number of "Class C" components. That ain't right. Am I supposed to believe that there's more "best of the best" gear than solid decent bang for the buck stuff? That for every piece of "above average" gear there's 5 pieces of "best of the best gear"? Alright, so I recently found out that Manga released a dub of this in the UK -- does anyone know if Dreamworks has any plans to negotiate something similar for the US? Or should I just go ahead and get the UK version? Also, according to the Wiki page, if the DVD says "V4" on the spine, then the subtitling is corrected (I.E. it's no longer the closed captioned version). Hirsch, you should do this. Then, you'd at least get the non-intrusive subtitles, for free, no less.

Hello All! I finally got fed up with the thought police over at Head-Fi, so I posted a farewell message saying goodbye and a little on why I was leaving. Nothing defamatory, just saying that I could not tolerate the moderators arbitrary enforcement of the rules and their deleting things just because they could. I then logged off. I went back to read any responses to my farewell (as a guest), and the f----ers deleted my farewell message. Oh?well. So here I am. I?ll see how things go here. Since Head-Case has of late begun its own DIY cable gallery, I'd like to discuss what I think is appropriate for such a gallery. Given that the Head-Fi DIY cable gallery has been used for commercial promotion by certain members (see the Ruh Roh thread), it would be nice if we could avoid that fate here. For example, posting glamour shots of cables for the purposes of attracting offers to buy is in my opinion not right. The DIY forum exists to help people build components which they could otherwise buy and promote the hobby of doing the same. So I played in a free poker tournament in NYC tonight hosted by partypoker.com or something, in Times Square. It was a pretty cool event actually, with free open bar and free food as well. There were about 200 people in the tournament. The good news is that I finished in 7th place. The bad news is that when I was at the final table, my nice coat was stolen off the back of my chair when I was standing up during an all-in The kicker is that while I was looking for my jacket, my 7th place prize (a set of nice poker chips in an aluminum case) was stolen from the tournament organizers.
