in general, do any specific brands stand out among others when it comes to cheap receiver headphone amps? i'm looking for an inexpensive remote-controlled video switching device and a cheap used receiver seems to fit the bill... i remember reading a while ago that the pioneer elite series supposedly have discreet amplification for their headphone out... basically, i'm looking to spend a couple hundred bucks at most and the only thing i care about is that i can switch video sources, so i thought i'd try to narrow it down by something i do care about... i realize most or all will suck compared to a decent separate headphone amp, but i'm just looking for any that s…

So I've been able to recently acquire a used KGSS. Using it with my 404LE, but I got it in anticipation of trying a 4070 and/or O2 at some point. It supposedly has a stepped DACT attenuator added (as original attenuator failed). It has some very noticeable static when I turn the volume knob, especially between each notch, but goes away completely when I set it at any specific volume level. The seller specifically disclosed this before the purchase, so all is good. I can live with it, as it sounds so good with the 404LE. My question is - in the future, if I wanted to eliminate this minor flaw, is it as simple as replacing with a new quality attenuator? (I'd have …

Well, I just joined up here today I'm also kpeezy on head-fi and I have a little question. I'm looking to combine my turntable setup and my PC setup. The plan is to get a phono pre-amp and a desktop amp (and something to switch between sources depending on the desktop amp). I'm really not sure about which specific components would work best with my headphones though. I'll update my sig soon enough but I have HD580s, SR225s, and K240 Sextetts. I am not sure which forum to put this question, whether the headphone or amp section. Which electrostatic headphone works best with the SRM-T1S? I now have the KGSS and the SR-007 for it is coming. I also have the T1S and want to optimize it's musical presentation at a second location. I really don't what the time or money to play around with all the combination of these headphones. I am inclined toward the SR-404, any comments. This is after reviewing lots of threads and personal rankings. I prefer the sound of the SR-Gamma Pro to the SRX-001 Mk3 normal bias. thanks

I finally got this guy from fed ex this morning but have only listened to a few CD's on it. So far I like it over my old amp which was an SR-71 [sic] and sick. I'm using this amp with my only piar of reference headphones that I have on me right now which are HD650s. When I get my sr325's back I'll see how this amp pairs with them. I'm using them out of a harman/kardon hd710. This is the most laid back amp I've heard, though it should be noted that I haven't heard a lot. There is a real focus on the midrange and upper midrange. SET and push-pull designs in tube amps? I know this is a very broad question, but what I am interested in is, if one design is suitable more for some type of headphones over the other. As far as I know, with the same tubes, push-pull designs can put more power, however with the usage of headphones, that should not be that important, I guess. The reason of this question is the following: I am wondering, if HD800s will be driven better with a PP or SE design in the same price range? What do you think? Also, very briefly, why? Hi ! I get this unit, but I'm confusing with offset voltage - I measured the output offset voltage and it is far from 0V - I do not know if these stax amplifiers have that, but mine has, respectively: 8.8V, 5.4V, 12V and -0.6V? Electrostats are rather new to me, but here the DC voltage at the output should be close to 0V, as in conventional amplifiers? Is it not damaged? Does anyone have a list of the correct voltages in this model?

I have the standard old school Stax SR X Mk3 , SRD 7 set up. What would be another amp to upgrade to? Thanks.

Well, Just received my new Woo 6 amp. Man this thing is beautiful! Extremely well built, it has plenty of muscle to drive my K701's to very loud levels. This is my first tube product, and I must say I'm very impressed! I can't believe how good this old technology can sound. What really impresses me the most , is how quite the amp is. Music seem to flow from a dead black background. I only have about 12 hours on my amp, so an in depth review should wait I guess, although I'm not one of those die hard believers in burn for electronics, I do think it affects dynamic drivers though. I skimmed some of them, but haven't been able to glean anything very meaninful, except about someone's table getting slightly singed by one of his amps, a rumor about a house fire caused by one of his amps, a lot of angry back and forth personal insults, which model of Terminator is superior, etc. Another thing that I find curious is that Ray seems to enjoy a "celebrity" status on Head-Fi, but not here. Do I need to do anything to run balanced headphones out of the XLR outputs on the Lavry? Can I simply get someone to recable the headphones terminated in female XLRs or do I need to do something different? I currently have the jumpers in the Lavry set on balanced output mode.

I have been reading up on these and wonder if they are any good. If anyone can shed light on these, or you have these items yourself then please could you let me know what you think. Shall look forward to hearing from others at some stage. Sincere Thanks
