  1. Here's an update on the mini. I've got the external regs running now. This thing does throw off quite a bit of heat. I've some sinks on the output transformers now, but I'd like to make them a bit larger. The regulators heatsinks are going to about 140 deg F at their peak and I'm ok with that. I was testing at +/-14V before I put the heatsinks on. The bump up to +/-20V seemed to smooth things out a bit on the top and bottom ends. I'm very happy with this so far

  3. In an effort to suffer less during the upcoming century I went out and did 51 this morning. Pretty pleased with the average pace of a bit over 18mph given that I 1) didn't stop for anything more than a stop sign and 2) got rained on pretty hard for the last 20 miles or so. I'm also shopping for hitch-mounted platform rack for the Jeep and while there's a lot to like about the 1UP there's stuff I definitely don't like. One, no built in lock. Two, at least in pictures, I don't really care for its aesthetic. Three, fuck me they're $$.

  7. It's just hard to spend half as much on the rack as I did on the bike. Still, gotta figure something out in less than a month to transport the calfee to the annual century. Then MTB session begins and I'll need it for that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. Nate the Kuat are super nice looking but too big and heavy for my use. I can understand your concern about the aesthetics of the 1up. I have until Tuesday to make up my mind. I am leaning towards just returning the whole lot after some unplanned fishing expenses.

  13. It's one of my transformers and it is rated for 450VAC when loaded. It all measures just fine.

  14. That sample at 11:04 from this week's show is totally distracting because it's one of my favourite tracks from one of my favourite albums, and it only flits in and out, yet conjures up the whole song, and by implication, the rest of the album.

  15. I finished populating all the components on the three boards for my KGSSHV build late last night. I've tested the voltages from the mains line, transformer, and the PSU board and got the measurements below. Everything "seems" to be working correctly EXCEPT that I'm not sure if the differences between the actual and rated voltages coming off the PSU board for the +/-450V and the Bias output is OK or Not. The Bias TP on the PSU Board measures +580 VDC, but then the two terminals labeled "Bias" on the board both measure only 400 VDC or so. (It measures 385 VDC when I first turn on the power and then slowly rises to about 404 VDC after running for several minutes.) Can you guys help me? Are my voltage measuresments within acceptable specs for the PSU board? BTW, I decided to use Molex 2- and 3-pin connectors so I could connect and disconnect the various interconnections quickly and easily. If anybody sees a potential problem with that, let me know. The connectors are rated for lower voltages but much, much higher currents than I suspect would run through the power supply board. Mains Voltage directly from wall outlet: Rated at 220VAC, Measured Actual 230VAC on Fluke Multimeter Measurements from Transformer: AC420, AC420: both measured 470VAC Actual AC15, AC15: both measured 16VAC Actual Measurements from terminals coming off PSU Board: Terminal Name - Actual Measurement +450 +500 VDC -450 -500 VDC +15 +15 VDC (we seem to be Golden here) -15 -15 VDC Bias Terminal (two pins both seem to be tied together on the board): +404 VDC Actual Measurement on Fluke Multimeter Bias TP +580 VDC Actual measurement <photo deleted to offset attachment quota>

  16. I like both the kuat and the 1up. For an SUV, I'd go kuat all the way. On a passenger car, I'd go 1up. The lock on the kuat is basically useless, but it stops honest people. With the 1up, I use a cable lock with a beefy padlock, that I keep in the trunk. The sherpa is a steal, comparatively speaking.

  17. I took my Raleigh RRA (irreplaceable) back to Iowa a couple of years ago on my Bones 2 at 80+ mph (300 miles each way). No problems, other than you have to tighten up the straps after a few miles. Sure a hitch rack is probably better, if you get the hitch mount installed properly, etc.

  18. Use a 10mm hex standoff for the nylon screws, not a nut. Gives much better grip. As for the locking washer, I use the ones with external teeth for a proper bite. I would use the ceramic and extend the transistor legs.
