I watched the entire Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy miniseries from 1979 (Sir Alec Guinness)...Good stuff, makes me miss shows like Rubicon, but I totally didn't catch Sir Patrick Stewart...Might hafta start over:)... Then the Worricker Trillogy...Rekindled my love affair with Winona Ryder...She's so...squirrelly(?) & creepy in it, but <3 <3 <3...2 points

Went to my first sugar shack. Ate so much. They start out by giving you a doggie bag to fill as you go. I'm not going to even try and describe everything, as I'm not really sure, and most of the descriptions were in French. Lots and lots of foie gras and maple syrup. I nearly died.1 point

In between blizzards I decided to see how winter smoking would work. I think I found the secret to good brisket in my smoker, an early start. Got up at 2am/3am(adjusted) to start things off, let it ride for 3hrs. Starting the misting process at 6am, put it in the wrap around 9am when it hit 160, took till after 2pm to hit 205, let it sit there for almost an hour and then removed it to the cooler to rest for 2hrs before dinner. It was far and away the best I've done from a "falling apart" perspective. Flavor was also very good. Perhaps it was just leaving it alone to start with, or the fact that I cut the 6lb point in two prior to cooking, or just the randomness of life. Regardless, I have a happy belly. This in one of the two chunks, about 2-1/2 lbs (it was 3" think).1 point

We lost power for about 12 hours which is nothing, all things considered, and we've got the generator/transfer-switch so it was really only out for 4 hours because I didn't feel like setting it all up at 2:30am when it went out. Still, a freak storm. I went to bed at 11pm and at that point we had maybe 2-3" of snow. Got up a little after 6 to start cleaning the driveway and setup temp power. We had 16"+ at that point and it was still coming down. I finally made it into work at 11am, where we were running on self-generated power. Some lines not far outside the base came down and landed on rail road lines and made for quite the lightning show for the local residents. Everything is pretty much back to normal around us at this point but there will be significant yard cleanup as the trees in the front yard took it on the chin again. Lily and I made the best of it yesterday afternoon and went out for about a mile and a half snow shoe in the woods.1 point

Milo (Al's alter ego) and I did some work on our router table/mortising machine today. It's starting to come together... Milo did a huge chunk of the milling and drilling on this, and all the holes and pivot points lined up perfectly! Of course, he stacked the deck a little bit... So upright, it's a regular router table, albeit a large one. tipped down, it's a mortising machine, or horizontal router table, useful for things like raised panels and such. We're really having fun building this and setting up shop in general. Still left to do... cutting the hole in the table top for the router lift, and painting/sealing.1 point

I had a chance to spend a bit over an hour and a half with one this afternoon. First off, it was powered by a laptop PC and running 44.1K 16 bit flac files. I didn't look to see whether they were using the internal DAC or a Music Fidelity DAC sitting on the shelf below the PC. There were sometimes multiple copies of the same ripped CD on the PC, other times they had the same track from different CDs. Initial impressions were that the treble was a bit on the bright side and the mids were a little too recessed. I listened to Rebecca Pidgeon on both the CHesky Demo CD and Rebecca's "The Raven" CD and they sounded indentical. I also listened to Buddy Holly on two different CD rips and they sounded different. One was bright and lifeless whilst the other was far more balanced. I also listened to Richard Strauss' Thus Spake Zarathustra (First 2 tracks). The first was Karl Reiner conducting the Chicago Symphony Orch. This sounded bright and paper thin in the mids. Switching to von Karajan version was a much better presentation albeit still a little thin, Bass was pretty good on both, but better on Karajan. I tried Mahler's 5th, and was left disappointed. Rimsky-Koraskoff's Scheherezade was much better on both recordings, but one was noticably better than the other. I then tried various tracks by Roy Orbison, Kate Bush, Nilsson, Moody Blues etc. and they varied greatly. Some tunes were very good. A couple just "sang" such as Johnny Mathis's "What Will My Mary Say" The Diamonds' "Little Darlin'" was another disappointment. I put most of the failures down to the Flac files. A couple times I had the volume control maxxed out, and I am not a loud listener. Some of the midrange euphony could be had at a louder volume but the treble became just too hot to handle. In summary, I am glad I have a Carbon and a SR-007 and SR-009. I would like to try my own WAV files through my YGGY as I truly believe it would sort out most of my grievances. Don't expect that to happen............1 point

RIP the three workers in the Yountville VA. It's very sad to see folks who do their best to help PTSD victims taken down by the ones they are trying to help. Having worked at the Menlo Park VA in their "mental health" unit, it's easy to forget that these guys are well trained and more dangerous than the average guy flipping out.0 points
