  1. Quick update on the status of the GB - we are in the process of testing the boards before sending them to the fab house for estimates. Will provide another update as progress is made.

  4. I need to get a new Everest strap, as this is now too big, but I think it looks good on the GMTIIc.

  5. The vault did its job. If that damned spire hadn't been put on in the 19th century, the interior would be untouched (it is mostly untouched, because the vault is a firewall, literally, but the spire punctured it in one place, when it collapsed). The designers and builders of the original structure did their jobs, and it's amazing that they came from an era of non-mathematical architecture (and fortunately the Notre Dame designers were conservative: some cathedrals were slightly too ambitious, and collapsed). Fires caused by renovations have burnt several cathedrals.* *I studied cathedral construction as part of my history degree.

  6. I just did my first "climb" session. I need to get a cadence sensor, and I'm sure I'm putting on too much resistance. I was definitely fading at the end, but I feel good, now that my heart rate has come down. I really like the spin bike! Three sessions a week, with weights in between (I've increased my weights, so I do them "on the hoof," again), seems to be my sweet spot. I have maintained my weight, but my waist is slowly shrinking again, and my chest and biceps have gotten larger. More definition in my legs and arms. I will get the remnants of this belly gone, dammit!

  7. The local AD is going to give me a couple springbars, even though I didn't buy this from them, and it's out of warranty. I have bought a few things from them, but just Omega accessories like NATO straps and buckles.

  9. They are close in harness, SS and grade 5 titanium. It is very important to note that these watches and bracelets are grade 5 which is significantly harder than the more common and easily worked grade 2. For instance you can't polish grade 2 because it's so soft. But if you don't want the bracelet I know from the factory you can get the diver 300 on a strap. You can probably get the aqua terra on a strap too but I haven't seen it that way. Omega also has an enormous selection of factory straps, NATO, rubber, leather.. It's also cheaper if you opt not to get the bracelet, but the bracelet would help resale even if you don't use it.

  13. Yes, that sound of the surf crashing in and causing all that quantum foam which also muffles all that plankton detail is a real downer. I'm working on a new multi-layered comb filter to act as a brush and sieve so that all the plankton can be free of the Brownian random motion that pervades all of existence. My next project will be to stifle the sound of the jackboots of inexorable progress as they trample over the obsolete and useless inventions and concepts which despoil the technological landscape.

  14. Not exactly appropriate for here, but RIP Cathedral de Notre Dame. She was a grand lady and one of the few structures that actually struck me with awe.

  15. RIP Ranking Roger. This is sad news anyway, but he is also literally one month older than me. https://www.google.com/amp/s/variety.com/2019/music/news/ranking-roger-english-beat-general-public-dies-dead-1203173371/amp/
