  1. I just finished a snack and now I am going body surfing. Ah, maybe I will wait

  2. Seems wise to wait. Me: Had epic fun mountain biking with some friends yesterday afternoon after bailing on work (was supposed to be off all day but...) with near perfect fall riding conditions - sunshine, 50F, light winds. We got out for a solid two hours of punishment in the local boulder field that has some pretty amazing features, most of which I actually rode. Today: will largely be spent watching it rain/snow. It's been raining hard for the last two hours already and is just getting started (allegedly). The weather people have played their 2020 cards and are claiming we could get between 2 and 12" of snow as it changes over this afternoon. Given that we're still in near-drought conditions it's good to see precipitation of any kind but sucks to go from dried up death to flash flood warnings. Buckle up buttercup, the year from hell isn't over yet...

  5. Did you ever think about inviting Brent up to try out that mountain bike trail? It would make for some spectacular video me thinks.

  6. Got the motor pod riser built today. Just need to get it clear coated. Everything else is done. Put some new shoes on the Colossus.

  7. So I got the toy box put together and got all the dominoes installed. Decided to take a break before changing blades to cut the 1/2” strips of Purple Heart for the edge facing. Not sure if 28 tooth or the 9 tooth panther blade is going to be used to cut these.

  8. The M1 Macs are too new and plenty of software has yet to made compatible with Big Sur, so we can only make educated guesses where 8G of ram might be a bottleneck. For now, I'd advise early adopters to max ram. It could make a huge difference in resale value if it turns out 8G is a real issue.

  9. I started reading Neal Stephenson's Seveneves again. It has a different urgency now, partway through the pandemic.

  10. The San Francisco Symphony’s “Deck the Hall” Convert will be broadcast today and will be available free online for anyone wanting to get in the spirit. https://www.sfsymphony.org/Watch-and-listen/Events/Deck-the-Hall The orchestra’s annual “Deck the Hall” concert has been downsized to 16 instrumentalists (and one accordionist), 12 choristers (plus the San Francisco Boys Choir), and no live audience members. Conducted by Daniel Stewart, hosted by Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser, and narrated by Raj Mathai.

  11. If it was me I would go for the Air with the increased RAM. I actually have come to dislike the touch bar on my Pro but I do like Touch ID (which the new M1 Air has). If I replace my 13” Pro, it will be with the M1 Air not the M1 Pro.

  14. I think having a overhang screw would only simplify cartridge alignment. I've just not encountered that before. Obviously that will only work with a Rega arm and Rega cartridge, but a solid idea IMO. What I do have a vast experience with is the rigidity idea. The more rigid the better performance!

  15. Craig is correct it comes with the Elys-2 cartridge, which I am fine with as a start, and maybe it will be a great cartridge. In my limited research it appears the Rega three-point system is meant to make cartridge alignment easier/more exact and make it more rigid. Not everyone agrees with the first idea so there are suggestions out there to perform a standard two screw alignment and then just add the third screw for rigidity. I have no opinion on that at this time but I am sure I will develop one.

  16. This to VPI's post on Tuesday: You need to watch where you use purpleheart. If it is exposed to bright sunlight the surface oxidizes to a rather dull browny-purple. But freshly cut it is a spectacular wood.

  17. It's a reasonable complaint. Put on the power cord first and connect the vacuum second. Easier that way.

  19. I'm not sure about the current crop but the big Clear Audio tables that look "oh so sexy" aways had the rep of having sub par bass. Supposedly those huge statement, floor standing Clear Audios corrected that,.. but the price!

  20. I absolutely agree, Clearaudio spinners and carts are way overpriced, that's why I like the Tecnodec and the Projects, great performance at a sensible price even considering that they've almost doubled in ten years.

  21. Not sure about that specific model, but in general the Clear Audio tables punch below their price point IMO. That being said, the sale price on the Marantz at B&H photo is damn good. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1526439-REG/marantz_tt15s1_belt_drive_turntable.html/?ap=y&gclid=Cj0KCQiA2af-BRDzARIsAIVQUOcAwXpT6XbRpTcpYyFuqK3WXihLjj4oo6u5o8-5vb0ffZnyZsq4U3MaAm9SEALw_wcB&lsft=BI%3A514&smp=y

  22. How user friendly are you wanting this thing to be? I'm a technics fanboy myself simply because they are stupidly easy to use and setup, require no maintenance, will most likely last longer then you will be alive (sorry), and the direct drive ensures that pitch won't get all wobbly or fluttery on you. Technics has the new models of various price points which are all quality, or you can go old school Mk2 on the used market to practice your wicka-wicka for your upcoming rave or techno dance party.

  24. Heh, I recently came back and noticed my turntable mat on the floor. My son took the “blank record off” before adding the one he wanted to listen to. I think the Rega entry level tables are nice. I wish I could just sell you mine but I am really looking forward to listening to it over the Holiday’s and it’s replacement isn’t going to be ready for a bit. Some motor experiments will be occurring over the weekend

  25. My opinionated counterpoint: Nooooo! Disney+ is the worst. It’s like porn in that you get tired of really quickly. Hell, the desertscape of Apple+ feels like it has more potential at this point. Hulu+ is for cordcutters, though is repositioning for their constant sale. They’re also the premiere distination for horrible Xmas movies (though Netflix is challenging). Also Fargo! HBOMax is, of course, solid and has supplemental content from Turner Classics and Studio Ghibli. Netflix and Amazon are admittedly racing to the bottom, though both countering in producing, or usually buying, decent original content. Criterion is Criterion, the best... that we all don’t watch enough of. Kanopy, if your local library supports it, is free and not far behind Criterion and Turner.

  27. I bit. I bought the macbook pro m1 16gb/512 to be delivered before the end of the year. I'll primarily use it with logic pro and final cut pro...some of my plug ins may take a while to get ported tho.
