  1. I've told this story before, but in 1993 I was working for DHL and one day I had a delivery for Todd Rundgren. A young (as yet unknown) 16ish y.o., beautiful girl answered the door. When I told her that I had an envelope for Todd, she said that she was his daughter and would give it to him. She was very pleasant and I told her how much I loved her Father's music. We chatted for a minute or two, then I carried on with my route. A year or two later, when I was back in Anchorage, I was watching music videos on TV. An Aerosmith video came on, with Alicia Silverstone and the young girl I'd had the conversation with. Shortly after that I found out that this beautiful girl wasn't Liv Rundgren, but actually Liv Tyler.

  3. Maya Rudolph's Mother had one of the widest octave ranges. I remember riding in the car with my Mom, trying to hit that note. I couldn't of course, but back then I could give it a pretty good try. BTW, that's her Father, Richard Rudolph playing acoustic guitar in the video.

  6. Thanks for dielectric values of PLA and PETG. Them in picture above are PETG but I’ve also used ABS which also works. I assume you can use PLA as well, but both PETG and ABS melting temperature are a bit higher than for PLA which might be an advantage when soldering wires to contacts.

  7. As most other DIYers I use Teflon Stax connectors with a small PCB. But on below amplifier I use 3D printed connectors with female golden contacts from Neutrik 3 pole XLR. And they seem to work really well. On heat sinks are 4 groups of c4686/a1968/c4686.

  8. I'm surprised we don't have this in the first TV subforum page. I finished yesterday the first and only season (so far) of "Mare of Easttown" on HBO. I really liked it, very well acted, Kate Winslet did a fantastic job.

  10. Professor T (PBS) - quirky university professor helps police solve crimes. Think Jonny Lee Miller's "Elementary", or Eric McCormack's "Perception", and the like. But it's set in Cambridge, so it's different... /edit - apparently this is a direct rip...er, adaptation of a Belgian series of the same name. So, not so different *shrug Still, it seems well-done so far. I like it.

  11. I finished The Leftovers yesterday, all three seasons. Not bad, last season is IMO weaker.

  14. I wish this were the case but it pretty clearly is not. Nearly half the US Men's basketball team and a number of other athletes "who's vacation status is unknown" have been placed in health and safety protocols in the last few days alone. This is embarrassing. The vax should have been mandatory to be on the US team.

  16. Three sides of all four drawers are cut, assembled and bottoms slid into place. The drawers will be left natural, with a clear lacquer finish. Except the drawer fronts, which will be stained to match the box. The box sits atop the drawers for weight, to ensure that they dry flat. Tomorrow I'll cut the fronts to fit and stain them. Not sure what finish I'm going to use on the box, but I think it'll probably be boiled linseed oil, with a top coat of Tried-N-True.

  18. The rated power for a resistor is in free air. So to push 0.42W into an 0.5W rating, it absolutely needs to be spaced from the board to allow convective air flow. If tight to the board, there is a hot area where it contacts the board and long term will lead to resistor failure. In fairness, even Tektronix have been guilty of that, with the board discolored under some resistors. Quad was less successful in the 405 power amp, where a 3.3k resistor feeding a 15V zener in underrated. In due course it fails open, putting one output to rail. The ridiculous crowbar then fires and short circuits the output. The power transistors and drivers then instantly fry. Then the crowbar itself blows up. Then the fuses blow.
