  1. Took my 13 year old grandson Logan up to see the Mariners vs Padres yesterday. It was his first ball game as well as his first train ride and his first time to Seattle. Fortunately we squeezed in before the rail strike caused a bunch of cancellations. It was a great day. Perfect weather and the short walk from King Station to T-Mobile Park takes you right by the Seahawks stadium so it was cool to see that. It was Hispanic Heritage Day and Rodriguez and Suarez both homered in the 1st inning so that was pretty badass. Mariners won 6-1. I am really liking the M's this year. Rodriguez is the real deal and Saurez is a beast, and they have good defense and pitching so the pieces are in place for a deep playoff run 🤞 I am a bit of a purist so in the past I was always a National League guy because I hated the DH rule and I loved the chess game-within-the-game and small ball type baseball. Now, given the ubiquity of the DH rule, I have decided to dump the Dodgers and go full rabid fan on the Mariners. I just can't do the Dodgers anymore. They are the new Yankees (best team money can buy). So GO MARINERS!!! The other American League team I thought about are the Angels. The Angels and I were both born in LA in the same year and I really like Ohtani but I don't think he's going to be an Angel for long and in the end I decided to go NW local. I also looked hard @ the Rays because I admire how they are perennially competitive despite their relatively low salary and TB is my initials 😆. Speaking of purism: stop fucking with baseball! The rule next year forbidding shifts is ridiculous. They should play wherever the hell is most strategic and if it's causing you grief as a hitter then learn to go opposite field. Adapt. Although I suppose the shift is a relatively recent phenomenon so I dunno. Seems like they are trying to make the game more offensively oriented and for me a 1-0 pitcher's duel is a thing of beauty. So crack a cold one Al, there is one less Dodgers fan 🍻

  2. Round two of seasoning. It's starting to get a nice, toasty Brown appearance. Just 9 more days of seasoning, before cooking some fried eggs!

  3. Nancy & Lee Nancy Sinatra, Lee Hazlewood 1968 https://album.link/i/1616561102 Example: -- Almost a perfect Album opener. Most of the album is like that, but not as slow. Some good and bad engineering in there as well. I was entertained for 42 minutes.

  5. Here is a rebuild Dynahi, now a CFA3 something. CFA3smd engraved on back side of the Dynahi front panel. A green LED in the small S. Diagram of bias (in mA for the first 40 minutes from power on) for servo respective no servo. I think that with the servo it’s possible to build this with just 4 transistors instead of 14 (per channel) on heat sink – time will tell.

  6. I love her so much. I used to sing along with her so much, I could probably cover Winter Kills, All Cried Out, This House (except I need to work on those high "oo-oo"'s) and...uh...I forget the fourth one. I have everything from Steal Me Blind through Where Hides Sleep memorized, is probably any of those. It's always 4 songs -- 4 by Black Sabbath, 4 by Blue Oyster Cult, 4 by Golden Earring...yeah yeah I know, my boomer is showing. 🤪

  7. Love her too....amazing talent, and powerful voice. Her version of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" eclipses Roberta Flack's by a good margin for me, and that version was already fantastic. On a side note, amazing that the song was written by Ewan MacColl, amazing himself, and father to the ever-lovely Kirsty MacColl (RIP).

  8. I posted about purchasing a new carbon steel pan recently. I thought that member's choice of cookware might be a interesting thread. For my self I have and use a set of non-stick cookware that I like. However most people missuse non-stick cookware. It's not made for high temp cooking, and will offgas at higher temperatures. That's not good for your health or for the pans non-stick characteristics. I also have a stainless set of Cookware that I love. That cookware, as many others require a certain method of cooking. Pre-heating is a must, but it's quite easy to learn and quite good once you do. Mine is a 5 ply clad set with a copper core as well as aluminum cores. Stainless, aluminum, copper, aluminum, stainless. It's very nice, but as with many things, there's not one type of pan that does everything well. I like cast iron for searing and making corn bread, among other things. I stand to inherit my Mother's cast iron, which belonged to her Grandmother. A few years back I decided to try carbon steel. I bought a cheap 11 inch pan. I think I paid around $30 pre pandemic. I love that pan! And with proper care and seasoning it can rival non-stick for releaseabilty. Mine is a relatively thin guage of carbon steel, which makes it quite light weight. This is both a positive and a negative. It heats up quite fast, but it can tend to burn foods easily. It is absolutely fantastic for searing meat. IMO it sears as well as cast iron, but is at temp much faster. I have noticed that it builds up carbon deposits pretty quick, especially after searing meat. This is the enemy of release ability. With this in mind I decided to buy a second 11.25" carbon skillet for non-stick, lower temp cooking. Eggs etc... I decided to go upscale and purchase a more expensive, quality pan. After much research I settled on DeBuyer. It's a French company and the pan is about 3 times the thickness of my inexpensive Guy Fiere. It arrived today, and using my knowledge after extensive research, I put my first layer of seasoning on the pan. This will be followed up by 10 additional layers before cooking in the pan. That's a bit overkill, but as I stated I intend this pan to be as non-stick as possible. The process I've settled on is first cleaning off the beeswax used for shipping purposes, with warm water and a mild copper scrub pad. Then I dry it completely on the burner of my gas range. While the pan is warm I use a cloth towel to rub on seasoning paste. The paste I'm using is Buzzywax (a combination of beeswax and seed oils). The solid paste makes it easier to get an extremely thin layer on the pan. Most people make the mistake of putting on too much oil. A micro thin layer does a much better job of polymerization. Too much oil will become sticky and never become a hardened layer. I'm also planning to let each of the eleven layers cure fully overnight. So it will take me a full eleven days to arrive at the base seasoning. After that daily use will just add to the season. The seasoning can be done in the oven at 450 degrees for one hour, then allow to fully cool down in the oven. My pan happens to be too big to fit in my tiny oven, due to the helper handle at the front of the pan. Therefore I'm seasoning mine on the stove top. I set the burner to high at first, then once the paste starts to smoke in the pan, I turn it down to medium-high and let it cook for about 20 minutes. Then turn off the burner and leave the pan to cool. Proper care does require cleaning and then rubbing down with a thin layer of oil after each use. Cleaning is as simple as whiping down in most instances. Though if that doesn't remove any leftover residue, simply adding some water and bringing to a simmer usually makes it quite simple to then carefully scrub out any residue. There are specific cleaning utensils recommended for both cast iron and carbon steel. A large chain mail scrub pad, a small chain mail scrubber, soft copper scrubber and a nylon brush are the commonly recommended items. The chainmail scrubs without scratching due to its rounded links, but some care is still needed. Don't put a lot of pressure into the scrubbing process. Seasoning paste. Cleaning utensils. The large chainmail scrubber has a nice silicone core.

  9. The Salzburg Recital (Live) Evgeny Kissin 2022 https://album.link/i/1630346272 Example: Kissen doing Kissen things - and that is a good thing. Interesting how he can make Gershwin sound like a Russian composer. But most of the performance is really good and a nice simple clean DG recording.

  10. Hard to pinpoint exactly, but it's a Mahogany derivative of some type. Could be Sapele.

  11. If Not For You (Deluxe Edition / Remastered 2022) Olivia Newton-John 1971 https://album.link/i/1641384228 Example: Before she was physical. Early and a bit rough Olivia. I can appreciate some of the gems in there but a typical covers album for a young talent.

  12. Been playing with Cobalt digital emulations as they’re currently on sale. They’re model based, so in these cases specifically Leica SL2 to match specifically first Leica M Monochrom (M9M). Still have to tweak, but leaning heavily, too heavily, into blacks, they’re promising.

  14. Not sure how that happened. The other thread has all of the pics, so if the mods can combine the cast iron post on this thread with the original on the other thread, that'd be great!

  17. I have tried a new Aeropress approach. 18g in the Niche and then 200g water (no bloom, just all in). Stir, brew for a minute, stir and attempt to plunge for a minute (but realistically 30 seconds). So far my best go.

  19. I’m doing some pretty excellent shots with the BDB. Slayer mod next, though I doubt I’ll be able to do as much as I can with the Flair 58. This was a medium-light roast Guatemalan. Despite the roast, it was a chocolate bomb. I use 198 for medium-light. I prefer to not do lighter coffees as espresso or filter without having PID: Dan is totally right about light roasted coffees really benefiting from control.

  20. Gorillaz 20th Anniversary Tour Also spotted: a @909 in the wild! Love this album so stoked it was represented Damon seems to truly care and is passionate in his performance Thought an Mmmm-Hale-Bopp mashup was coming, but no such luck Uber drivers wouldnt let him drive, so we tried the monorail. They wouldn’t let him drive either. Idk why. We were posted up in front of the sound booth. I think the sound guy noticed David has JH Audio custom earplugs so he got the set list!!! It’s now residing with me; love it! This is the instrument I should have played growing up instead of saxophone. Alas. Perhaps in my next life/simulation. Dig the venue And the photographer was literally right behind us. Hoping to find some of those images soon. Had a good time; this was a bucket list band for me to see live
