He also did that Chess song... I think his brother was too small to make it big.3 points

I do this all the time, where someone saying something to me will trigger a song in my head. Karen and I were joking about something, and she said to me, "Say it ain't so...." So I repeated it and added "Joe" at the end, and we discussed for a few minutes who sang that song (she didn't even remember it). So thank you internetz and youtoob:3 points

Got another car control class on the books (with the BMW club, hopefully they accept my car 🙃) and I'm going to try my first road rally with the Porsche club. When I thought rally I thought of sliding cars around on dirt rally stages but this isn't like that at all. It is more like a scavenger hunt that you do from your car and that rewards precision, not speed. I like it! Trying to nail down a co-driver/co-navigator (@Grahame ?). I think maybe I'll do my first auto cross in April. This car hobby is quite the rabbit-hole of stuff to do. It is helpful that a large portion of hobbyist motorsport seems to be organized on a single website, https://www.motorsportreg.com, making it easy to find out a good amount of what is going on nearby.2 points

I believe they are the cfp3smtsplit gerbers (Amp and Pre) on his site. If you read the thread, Kerry also did some spilt boards with more SMT on them (so probably smaller), but I don't think he released the Gerbers. Probably going to do a commercial product with his new company with those.2 points

I can say that 20 year old cassettes sound a WHOLE LOT better than 20 year old dats.1 point

Perfect sound forever! I do like the ability to make perfect digital copies. It's subjective whether digital sounds "better" than analog, but it certainly is easier, faster, and cheaper.1 point

^ Agreed. The vinyl revival makes sense regarding sounds quality. Tapes are just inferior in every way. Nastalgia would be the only motivation. I'm old enough to remember the one thing that made tapes worthwhile other than portability, to make copies. That usefulness went away with burnable CDs. Fuck I'm old. That's my point.1 point

I had several Nakamichi cassette decks, including the Dragon. But even the greatest decks made still can't do a thing about tape dropouts. It's just not a good longterm medium.1 point

ZMF has many fanboys, but take a look at this (for measurements): "Heavily boosted upper bass lack of energy in lower treble" https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/zmf-atticus-review-headphone.24191/1 point

I am scheduled to get in on Friday around noon so once I check in, it'll be a game to find the rest of the crew. Definitely down for dinner Saturday but I have nothing else to add as this will be my first time actually spending time in NYC. Edit: Have I mentioned I am excited to see some of you for the first time in like 8 years? I am very excited.1 point

Starting yesterday, drove about 120mil north to visit Al and Steve since I’d managed to make it all the way to the left coast and seemed a shame to not close the gap all the way. Had excellent drinks and dinner with the two of them and Claire last night, followed by breakfast this morning after viewing some (smallish) redwoods. Then decided that I should probably take the long way “home” back to Monterey so took Rt1/PCH stopping for a walk and a few photos on the way.1 point

Documentation? heh Which amp? This is a confusing thread because there are at least 3 amps discussed here, maybe more (Kevin or others, correct me if I am wrong): CFA2 (CFP) - current feedback amp. Each board does 1 channel SE, so 2 for stereo SE, 4 for stereo balanced. Kevin later did a mod to this adding current mirrors feeding the servo. People who had built the original noticed that the servo was audible as to quality of opamp. The schematic in Kevin's archive is the older version. CFA3 - current feedback amp for balanced. Not sure if anyone ran boards for this one. Basically a pair of CFA2 amps and ubal-bal board on one pcb. Schematic does not show the current mirror mod as in 1 above uberamp - seems to be a power amp; I've never quite figured this one out Here are the schematics for the CFA2 (current mirror version), and the CFA3. I also attached my BOM for a CFA2. Amp quantity shown is for stereo SE. If going balanced, double it. It should reflect the later current mirror version. You'll also need some GRLVs or other power supplies, etc. cfa2cmirror.pdf cfa3production.PDF CFP2_BOM_update2018march.xlsx EDIT: I also ran across another schematic on Kevin's site which I hadn't seen before: currentsourceamp2.PDF. This seems very similar to the cfa2cmirror schematic, but is described as a transconductance amp.1 point

If you guys find something a bit further north, I might be able to make my way down.1 point

Some days I have fiddly, little stuff that takes time, with little visual reward. The homeowners wanted to save these built-ins. We had to remove them temporarily to wire the walls behind. Either in the removal or during it's life, the cabinet was missing some little trim pieces that you just can't find today. So I have to manufacture my own. The end result just looks like nothing was done, when in fact it was a lot of fiddling.0 points
