  1. The latest Milo & Otis joint is coming along nicely. The two end tables basically consist of 3 boxes each. The top horizontal box, which encompasses the drawer, the middle vertical box and the bottom horizontal box. Aside from those three boxes are the two drawers (One per nightstand). And the bases which are maybe an inch and a half tall, and provide a shadow line under the bottom box. We have milled all the rabbits, put together the three separate boxes, flush trimmed all joints and sanded all panels. Very happy with how flat and well fitted everything is to this point. Left to do is joining the three boxes together, building the drawers and finishing the stands. The narrow, vertical middle boxes were rabbited on each end, to allow us to install plywood panels that will secure the top and bottom boxes by gluing and screwing them together. We used a large rabbiting bit on the router table. It was a little bit awkward, but worked a charm. As you can see in the pics, the Black dyed plywood panels will end up being the bottom panels that the base attaches to. These will be screwed only, to allow us to add weight in the form of sand, to make the stands bottom heavy, and thus less likely to topple over once the drawers are fully extended out. We kind of like the Black plywood, and plan on dying the plywood drawers Black as well. Oh, and Milo's finger is healing nicely.

  2. New Philip Glass. Nothing earth shattering, but a nice new recording. also, a note that that cover is by Luis Álvarez Roure and is a stunning bit of portraiture.

  5. Sure, if you aren't having fun then why on earth would anybody call this a hobby. I know far too many people take this way to seriously but I'd also say his post very much goes in that direction and comes off as nonsensical at best. Perhaps I'm biased by my own extremely low effort reviews but when you are drawing up multiple images... yeah... it all becomes a bit serious. I also very much agree that the review doesn't touch on how the headphones actually sound. To me they have a deliberately compromised imaging (as in designed throw a specific image but it doesn't really work or make any sense) so I feel it is a lot of BS thrown up to try and account for that. Electrostatics are (well should be) infinite baffle designs so if the room is having an impact... then the other side of the bipolar output is surely doing so as well. That will cause cancellations, time smear and totally fuck up the sound. I find it a bit funny how both designs that pay homage to the SR-Omega, leave out or fuck with, what is arguably its main design element. The ES-1a doesn't have the outer screen in place at all and on the X9000 they use a very different material and then angle the screen... and do it in the wrong bloody direction. The screen should have been denser and flat to the back of the drivers.

  9. Nice find! This is the original telefilm that was Max's debut to the world. The show that followed stretched this plot out a bit, without diluting quality. For a long time, my favourite show EVAR evar evar evar Now, it's still one of my favourite shows ever. But there's so many of them.

  10. I did some big boy wood working today. (Please Tice, stop snickering.) My (sainted, octogenarian) bought a "computer desk" at the end of the 20th century. It's made of solid wood, so it's still in one piece. Unfortunately, it had some really crap plastic-on-plastic casters that just disintegrated. Today I cleared it off of all computer hardware, flipped it over and gave it new feet: The new casters have a different screw pattern than the old one, but I re-used one screw hole from each so I didn't have to attempt any fancy alignment. I exited the proceedings with no more loose screws than I started with.

  11. I think people can and should have fun with our audio bullshit, music is fun and cool. But there is a way to do that without a bunch of self-aggrandizing hot air. The claim that the headphone design makes recordings "binaural" and the room effect commentary is too much for me to get over. The fact that several concepts of acoustics are fundamentally misrepresented but presented authoritatively is... not great. Plus, we are inventing brand-new acoustic concepts! Fun! This person also has a pair of $10k-ish interconnects in this system. Make of that what you will.

  14. I’m on the road with the Flair Pro 2, the Bellman, and the Orphan Lido OG grinder. Not a bad setup for a little latte in the morning. I’ve found soaking the brew chambers in boiling water to be the most effective way to go.
