  1. In an effort to try and finish up some of the gigantic pile of projects, here is a fully DC/DC powered KGSSHV. The unit is close to 10 years old but not really used at all as it ended up at Kevin's with some transformer trouble. A couple of years ago I made an effort to bring all those amps home so I stripped it down for transport and the transformer went in the trash to save on weight. Then I found those lovely 400V DC/DC bricks, added one for 600V bias (with a bit of a trim and filtering) and one for +/-15V, all driven off a 90W 24VDC Meanwell brick. I had to lower the output stage current a bit from stock and there is a tiny bit of coil whine coming from those HV supplies but it works well. The B+ supply is the hottest part in there at 60°C.

  2. One of the guys on the UK Vintage Radio forum posted: "A little story. In my teens I was a big Black Sabbath fan. I'd heard that Ozzy lived at Ranton, a village near Stafford not too far from where I live. Me and a mate got on our bikes and rode over there. In a field a guy who looked like Ozzy was riding around on a monkey bike that was popular at the time. It was Ozzy's brother and he asked if we wanted to meet Ozzy. Of course we did. So we went in and for half an hour I chatted to him as he lay on a settee plucking aimlessly at a guitar. I kinda interviewed him. After a while his wife (first wife not Sharon) came into the room and said, "We have to go to Billy's now". Obviously Bill Ward, the drummer in Black Sabbath. Ozzy sent us on our way with signed stickers. A day to remember."

  3. Character lens train. The LLL 50mm f/1.5 Z21 (Angenieux S21 recreation) arrived this afternoon. Only time for a few nearby shots (mostly at f/1.8) due to work, but might be fun.

  4. RIP Tom Troupe. Honestly, I don't know who are, but anyone who starred in Mary Hartman, The Devil's Brigade, Cheers, CHiPs, Star Trek, The Diary of Ann Frank, Cagney & Lacey, Kelly's Heroes, and My Own Private Idaho, deserves a tribute. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/tom-troupe-dead-stage-screen-actor-1236324292/ https://abc7ny.com/post/actor-tom-troupe-dies-97-home-beverly-hills/17217594/

  10. I used to have a friend from .ca who lived outside of the Toronto area. His parents owned a BMW dealership, so I called him "The Torontonian Trustafarian." TT for short. He endured a good decade of "TT" jokes. If we were still friends, he'd be extra annoyed with me today as all three TTArtisan lenses I bought during prime day arrived. I made it a point to use all three. I favored the 75mm F/1.5 the most, to the surprise of no one. The 100mm F/2.8 Bubble Bokeh is odd and I need to use it more. The 11mm F/2.8 Fisheye is neat, but I have no idea what I'm doing with a fisheye lens. 75mm, wide open. This wood pile is my new favorite subject. 100mm wide open, I think. The aperture ring is in an odd spot on all of the TTArtisan lenses and was not used to adjusting them. My neighbors across the street are and old Vineyard family. Mr. Norton died earlier this year at 93. His family do a top not keeping up the farm. They replaced half a dozen rails in their fence (which are expensive AF.) I think I mentioned I have no blinkered idea what I'm doing with a fisheye.

  12. wow, you take off 2 hours to watch a movie and then all of this. if that class B output section could actually deliver 1 amp or more that is required for just about every single planar or ribbon then maybe it might actually perform correctly. but the opamp cannot possibly supply enough current to drive the output stage. all the feedback in the world won't help. and for real world loads R2 actually makes it worse. multiple feedback loops and it looks just like the squarewave of the nfca module. more like a stair step. something the AP cannot possibly measure. hint: look at the quad current dumper. class B output section. performs well within its power limit. all this to reduce the current capabilities of the power supply. all this to reduce the heat generated because the heatsinks are way to small. yes its a piece of unreliable garbage.

  13. In the sprit of getting dirty I decided to list the Tarmac for sale and jump on this deal: It's a 2022 Cervelo Aspero 5 and the top of the line model at that. MSRP $10,500, I paid about 40c on the $ for it and the owner admitted that he bought it and essentially never rode it - condition backs that up. It also came with a like new Garmin head unit and tail light/radar setup which is pretty sweet. When I recently learned that they completed a ~9mi section of rail trail that can become ~50% of my morning commute I decided it was time to dive into the deep end. The color is something like "purple sunset" (cheers to you, Dusty) and is straight up wild. We'll see how the new modified commute goes tomorrow.
