  1. I'm nearly done, everything assembled in the case. Everything works perfectly Learned a lot building this. Like the fact that connecting the HV and LV transformers in series doesn't really work that well. And that it is a good idea to disconnect the mains before using a knife to remove some shrink tubing from the IEC socket. I was leaning both my elbows on the chassis at the time, giving me a small shock resulting in me butting the blunt end of the knife into my forehead. Made me feel real smart and special. Luckily it was only one phase to ground, and the chassis is anodized and have a pretty high resistance. I'm proud of this project because I actually finished it. Told myself not to start using the amp before the casework and everything else was done, unlike all the halfway done projects laying around my room. (like a DAC with no top cover etc) Some pics: https://imgur.com/a/wnFi9 (even though it might look like it, I'm not actually a professional metal worker. Also I'm missing a lot of the right tools for the job. I think it looks half decent, though) The chassis and some of the neutriks are from an old never-finished amp, wanted to use the side heatsinks so I extended the legs of the 10M90's a bit. Ordered wrong small heatsink for the PSU, had to slightly mod a larger one to fit. Powerbutton is ebay stuff, orange LED. SQ on this thing is awesome. (007MK1). At first I was a bit dissapointed, the soundstage was kind of small, all inside my head, but then I remembered switching opamps on my soundcard (xonar essence STX) a while back. Switched back to good old Audio-Gd disceets and everything changed. Very happy now! Next investment will probably be a balanced Audio-Gd DAC, but for a while the STX will have to do. I'm also very impressed by the KGSSHV Mini PSU, very stable and very cool operation only getting slightly warm after some hours of use. I know nothing of electronic design, but would it be easy to build a small version of this with only LV for +12V and +5V for powering the soundcard? Thanks to every one that has contributed to this forum for all the info and help, and especially spritzer for answering my noob questions!

  3. Thanks guys, it was very good, better than the first one for sure. I let it get to a solid 205 internal before pulling it. Didn't have quite enough rest time but that didn't seem to impact things negatively either. I guess that I am going to have to get up earlier next time, which is unfortunately but on some level I'm happy to suffer for the craft.

  4. Have been listening to the Elear every day for the past 10 days or so using both the original Dynalo and the SuSy Dynalo. Today I hooked up my HD650 for a contrast. I read many comments on the internet comparing these two phones to each other. I don't get it - these are two very different sounding headphones. The HD650 is very "polite" sounding, almost everything sounds good through it. The Elear on the other hand is a very intimate sounding, in-your-face kind of presentation. On some material it can be too much for me. The Elear also has more resolution and there is more substance behind the human voice and instrument. It's very dynamic. Now that I have a first hand experience in a familiar setting, I can understand some of Tyll's comment in his review. There is a quality of this headphone I have not experienced before which I still cannot quite wrap my head around it... Both headphones feel comfortable to me. The Elear is noticeably heavier and cramps tighter. I should mention that my HD650 is an older version with a Cardas cable which I re-terminated with a 4 pin XLR plug. It sounds warmer than my friend's 2 years old HD650 with stock cable. My Elear is used with my own DIY cable.

  6. Ken Burns' 10-part, 18-hour The Vietnam War begins to air this Sunday, so don't forget to set your DVRs! http://www.pbs.org/kenburns/the-vietnam-war/home/ The early buzz is that it is outstanding. I'm more excited for it than I have been for anything on television this year. Soundtrack by Reznor and Atticus Ross should be interesting as well. - The New Yorker did a nice profile on Ken Burns ahead of the series premier that is also worth reading. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/09/04/ken-burns-american-canon

  9. Hi. Just completed my own set of PCB for this amp, see pictures. I also took detailed measurements. Here some measurements: Sensitivity: 1.25Vin max, for 6.9Vac Out Max. into 8 ohms Power: 5.95W into 8 ohms max. BW (Ref 1Khz, 1V): 0.3Hz to 145Khz Noise (gnd input): 0.08mV (Lab. power supply), 2.2mv (Standard Supply), see graph THD (1V, see load): 0.042% (8 ohms), 0.007% (16 ohms), 0.008% (no load), see graph IMD (1V, 1 & 2Khz): 0.007% (16 ohms) In normal use, max volume, gnd inputs, no noise can be hear... 10. Just to point out that the PBS Video app has all 10 episodes up now, in both the broadcast version, and the explicit language version. The Colonel Kurtz quote seems appropriate.

  13. measure the voltages on the opamp socket before you stick the opamp in. or possibly the opamp is dead.

  14. Finished my Dynahi this week, a big thanks to Kevin Gilmore making this project possible. Was a more or less ;-) troublefree build, thanks to this forum i get the needed information, thanks to all. I tried to build the Dynahi in a relative small case so the challenge was to shield the trafos, i used grain-oriented-steel bands around the trafos and top covers also made from grain-oriented-steel, added 70.- usd to the BOM but was well invested, no inducted noise at all :-). The amp is bias to 0.625 v so that the case can handle the heat. Sounds superb as the dynalo. I have a second headphone out on the back, i will use it together with the ifi iesl pro to drive my stax headphones (as my sony vfet via the iesl to drive the electrostats). https://www.head-fi.org/gallery/album/kevin-gilmore-dynahi.1154508/

  17. Well, my GMT has started running -20 sec/day. It was running -2, previously.. It's not magnetized (I had it demagnetized at a local jeweler I trust, who has a real demagnetizer, and not the $20 Chinese one I have), and it hasn't been knocked, or dropped, or abused in any other way. I guess it goes back to California. The service was warrantied, and I'm absolutely sure it will be taken care of, but I'm having some bad watch luck, of late.
