The ultimate DIY? A Stax SRM-T2!
The spacers are there to keep the heat away from the board, or to better cool the part? Very nice looking work Inu!

Driver for mid production K1000
Excellent! Yeah, I started with full toe out too. It always surprises me how many people I see with them toed in all the way, as I never liked them there.

Damn! That's really nice work, actually pretty incredible given the size of the original wire! I'll have to stick with wood, as that's beyond my capabilities for certain. I see the overspray you were referring to. It's a damn shame the way some people treat their gear. Justin that's close to where I like my toe out as well. Maybe about 40% out.

Happy Birthday swt61!
Thanks guys! I'm afraid my age is indeed catching up with me though, as I over did it a bit Wednesday with the demo of some old decks, and I've been bed bound with a strained back since. It's not actually a back injury, just very tight muscles in my lower back area from lifting beams and ledgers that were too heavy. That and trying to keep up with the younger guys on my crew that are pretty gung ho. This is the first time I've experienced any kind of back problem whatsoever, and the timing with my 49th Birthday has me feeling very mortal. This is life's way of telling me that it's time to delegate more.

Post the last thing you bought!
I doubt that I'd ever want to leave your DIY den Nate. I'm aware of the goodness those Quads provide, and the rest of the system looks quite tasty as well.

I don't even understand how one would go about repairing that. Can you take an after pic, so that it makes more sense to me?

Preamp with at least 1 balanced in, 1 balanced out, and one balanced loop/tape out?
I did consider the idea of adding a passive volume control to the Darwin at one point, and still think that would be the ultimate balanced passive pre-amp, but I no longer really have that need since the Buffalo II will have attenuation. Sorry about the faulty repair Mike.

PS Audio PerfectWave DAC
Is this the one to take over the world and split the control?

Just thinking about messing with such tiny wires makes my stomach crawl.

Driver for mid production K1000
That looks suspiciously like metal shavings caused from drilling into sheet metal. How the hell they got into a K1000 driver is beyond me. I suspect this guy had his screens off like some people rave about, and was DIYing something much too close to the headphones. Miguel is damned lucky that he chose you to fix them! You da man Fitz!

Happy Birthday swt61!
Thanks everyone. I'm 49 today, so this will be my last official Birthday. I've chosen to be perpetually 49 from here on out.

What did you do today?
I blushed through the whole thing, and wasn't comfortable until it was over. I swear I have boxer shorts older than she was. I make a bad perv.

What did you do today?
I don't have pics. The guys took some, but they'll never see the light of day.

What did you do today?
Got ambushed by the guys at lunch today. A cop came in asking about my car. I should have known there was no way a female cop would look that good, but it honestly didn't cross my mind. Then when she asked me to step out of the restaurant I saw a couple of the guys trying to hold back a snicker and caught onto the gig. She kept everything covered, but just. The waitresses gave me hell all through lunch, but it was fun.

Happy Birthday cclragnarok!
We don't forget you just because you haven't posted in a while. We still remember that philodox guy, well kind of.

watt requirement
Agreed. Most vintage receivers back in the day put out between 25-45 WPC RMS. Therefore most speakers built in that same timeline required very similar power demands. The NAD amps are quite capable of driving the 8 ohm Akais.

Beyer T1
I'd most certainly argue with that statement. The HD-650 was definitely a leading headphone before the HD-800 came along, as were the HD-580 and HD-600 before that. And AKG was definitely making top tier headphones with the K340, K501 and later K701. The K1000 was and continues to be ground breaking. Sony, Audio-Technica, Grado, and Stax probably sold less volume than Senn., AKG and Beyer. The fact that you might not care for the above mentioned headphones does not make them any less of a marketable success. P.S. If I thought I could get away with it, I'd most definitely name my business 'Ebony Erections Audio'. Yes I just noticed that.

Must be the K1000 speaker adapter/extension cable I gave you. Glad it found some good use after all.
