I've used the beta's and it's a pretty nice improvement over Vista. It's certainly faster/more responsive when run on shitty hardware.
Whether or not oct 23 is the release date will depend a lot on how the first RC goes. Which is already available to testers, MSDN members, etc.
Yeah get something from NewEgg, personally I'd recommend a Western Digital HD. I'd avoid Seagate's unless you don't mind updating the firmware when you get it. 500gig should be pretty cheap now, well under $100.
yeah i'd think the rotten egg smell that they supposedly have from the beginning would have me getting them replaced long before they can corrode anything.
Restore points can be pretty useful in cases where a newly installed driver or app totally hoses things. But it's not much use otherwise.
I used to go the Ghost route but I find it fairly tedious and it doesn't really speed up the recovery process much. For most of my important data I make sure I have a copy on my main pc and my server. For stuff like my music I keep just on the server.
I'd like it if more immigrants in the US would bother to learn English, though it's partially our fault by not having an official language on a national level. Quite a few states have official languages but without a national policy they are kinda useless.

If you don't mind the issues with the ripples in the veneer on the top of the cabinets that price is a steal I'm pretty sure it's lower than parts cost.
small online shops like that very often don't have any inventory tracking or if they do it's not likely tied into their website at all so they just list everything as in stock .
I've seen a few Cary SLI 80s go for pretty decent prices on audiogon lately. Been thinking about picking one up to use as a headphone amp and to drive a pair of monitors in a secondary rig. Does anyone have experience with it as a headphone amp? Is it good with all phones? Or just low or high impedance phones?
