  1. I use some cheap third party one that works sometimes (have to try plugging the USB in a few times), but when it works it works. It was the best rated third party one on amazon and cost like $10. And the cable that comes with it does USB file transfers too.

It has to have 3 pin, that's what's on all the detachable AKG cables. Is it safe to bridge the negatives on balanced stuff?
  3. Fungi replied to humanflyz's topic in Headphones
You'd need to hack apart the connector on the housing since it's 3pin XLR.

Never heard a K271S but it should be the exact same thing, just includes velour pads by default now.
  5. Wait, you mean that's not the right way to listen?
  6. Fought some 10+ year old sticker goo for a good hour or so to replace these. So soft and comfy and seal-y now.

If this is what you were talking about before with that special secret well-known technology, The Project should be awesome.
  8. All right movie, need to read the comic some time.
  9. K401 and K501.
  10. Just wondering, no closed headphones? And I wouldn't count on the E4 being more isolating than the Shure, assuming you're using tips that seal equally.

Re-bumping an old thread, but I'm really liking the K271 (mkII) as well. Sound so good. Unscrewed the elastic holder pieces so the headband is free (my head is big) and comfort is great.
  12. If Tomorrow Never Knows isn't on it I'm going to be
  13. Panavise 300 (base), 312 (part holder base mount), 315 (PCB holder)
  14. Thanks for all the responses, I think I'll pass on the DAC for now and learn some basic PCB soldering first. And luvdunhill, thanks for the offer but I have to do this myself
  15. Is it too ambitious of a beginner project to try and do like, a BantamDAC and Mini^3 or Pimeta in a single enclosure? Note that my experience with casework and surface mount soldering is zero, not even having made either standalone. I think the casework is going to be the hardest part of this, based on what I've read from past DIY stuff, and I guess the question boils down to "is the casework for two-in-one a bad idea to do before doing a single?" if I'm not mistaken.

    Only if it's equal opportunity.
  17. The prize is a lab date with KG feat. cryo.
  18. Sony A818 -> SA6/ESW9/OK3. My life is complete.
  19. I thought it was back up butn then I realised these were posts from last month
  20. I think the reasoning was that they wanted the user to hear what the system could do, not limited by puny headphones.
  21. 1) Cryo 2) Blackgates 3) MOAR BLACKGATES 4) Custom machined enclosure and knob direct from Chinese factories

Take a blade, slice gently down lengthwise, and the shielding will protect the inner wire. Strips off like magic.
  23. V6 is $70, not bad. Some say they suck, but on the whole they don't. I do like the sound of my roommate's old 7506 over his new V6, though. The 7506, while not as "full" is a lot more clear. Not sure if it's mid/low resonance or just boosted frequency or something.

I always strip the rubber stuff and shielding off and slip some nylon multifilament on. Makes for great minimalist cable.
