  1. Happy Birthday Marc!
  2. And glad you are OK duggeh! Sorry about the car.
  3. My condolences Brent. Sorry about the drill accident Fitz, hope it gets better quickly.
  4. Fail on the timing belt, or just time to do it? Alternator? I was happy to find out my 09 Accord has a timing chain... Belts have gone up to >$1K here (from $500 4 years ago, for the same car). Sucks.
  5. Isn't the whole point of this device to take USB audio and convert to S/PDIF to a DAC? Wouldn't jitter measurements as well as ensuring that the data is preserved bit-perfect be the meaningful measurements? Of course you have no control of the quality of the S/PDIF interface on the DAC end , so I'm not sure how you would go about offering a meaningful measurement, particularly of jitter.
  6. Happy Birthday!
  7. I'm not sure the surge protector would be able to test the ground? Do you know how your apartment is wired? If it is conduit, then by default it should be grounded via the conduit. If romex, then you should see a ground wire inside the outlet going to the box (I believe). If you look inside an outlet, be careful. You could pick up a tester such as [url=http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2665480&CAWELAID=109389922]Sperry
  8. Happy Birthday!
  9. Happy Birthday!
  10. Sorry to hear about your finger Nate. Best wishes, and I hope you are out of the ER by now.
  11. Yeah Yeah Yeahs It's Blitz! I really like this one...
  12. The Kills No Wow
  13. The ppm portion of their spec is meaningless in the context of digital audio (as long as it is withing 100ppm you are fine), but the mention of phase noise is correct, as this directly translates to jitter. Measuring at 10Hz is a plus as well. I don't really understand all of this myself, but most will only publish down to 100Hz. The lower the frequency, the higher the jitter/phase noise (at least according to Jocko and gmarsh). Of course that is just the crystal spec... I think what you do with it has more of a determining factor.
  14. If no one else can do it, I could (provided my Accord is big enough). Send a nice source so I can compare it to my modded Rotel
  15. Happy Birthday!

    Misheard Lyrics

Back when my oldest son was around 4, he misheard the lyrics to Live "I Alone" as "I will lawn dare you". He used to sit in his carseat singing this...
  18. Hey! That's my trick. Had to laugh when I read that as an Xacto is the first think I grab...
  19. Bad link on your second one. Yeah, I noticed the "Teddy Burr" and started laughing as well. I thought possibly the Burr 5 set might be good?
  20. These look interesting, but having a hard time figuring out what is what, or which one(s) to get?
  21. They are still highly thought of in many circles. 16-bit R2R DAC. Thorsten Loech chose it for his commercial DAC (can't remember the name of the company) even though they have been out of production for a decade. Just because it is old doesn't mean it isn't good. The primary reason that R2R dacs (multibit) aren't done much anymore is cost as it is expensive to laser trim all the resistors on the die.
  22. They are just graded TDA1541a's. In other words, tested and verified to meet certain specs, and then sold at a premium (and now faked). Since they didn't test all of them produced (I presume), it is possible to get a TDA that performs as well as the single or double crowns, but just isn't marked (and can't be sold on fleabay for $200+).
  23. Used to use vi.... on a VAX. And tbl. And pic. Fun fun Actually didn't mind it and liked vi. Writing formatting macros... kill a tree, rewrite... nuther tree.. heh.
  24. I wouldn't necessarily think those TDAs were fake; the date code is valid, etc. There is a big thread on diyaudio covering these, but they look plausible to me. Since it doesn't power up and is damaged, the refund and return is the way to go. Good luck!
