I had 3 Ricos Tacos from Ricos Tacos Moya (chicken, steak, and pork "al pastor").

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say about the VTGs. I probably should not have said, "...in the same way..." when I really meant "...the same, only different..."

I don't have a favourite. He has too many perfect ones. And even Splendido Hotel -- with its horrific roller rink background music of "I Can Tell" -- is such an otherwise wonderful album, that I forgive it that one mar. But yeah, that's one of 'em.

Yeah, but this was in the early days, when most people were not amplifying properly. And yes, you're right, most headphones "scale" -- they respond well to increasingly better amplification. I think the HD600 are worse than most (in the same way I think the VTGs and the Sony MDR-7506/-V6 are better than most, in that they scale very little).

Voted. (I did not vote for rat poison.) Walked to my polling place. Had a margarita on the way back. Changed my Avatar. Again. Went to the doctor, got a thumbs up for the improvement, told his assistant that I really enjoyed her singing last time, I think that put her off, though, she got all formal. I hope I didn't make her feel too uncomfortable, I was trying to encourage her singing, it made for a really pleasant experience for me last time. Oh well...

No, I remember even before , the HD600 was considered veiled unless you amped it properly . I don't consider one more veiled than the other .

I don't think so -- the way Massdrop works is, they promote a slightly tweaked version of an already popular product, sort of like Grado did with Head-Fi and the HF-1 and HF-2. I mean, I still applaud you for being suspicious, as we all should be, but I don't think it's as bad as all that. They may be using this as a venue for trying out a slightly new tweak on the HD650, there's nothing in the rules against that. I'm just weary of what the tweaks could be, as I don't consider all tweaks to necessarily be improvements.

What veil? I took a pass on the HD6xx...but only because I forgot it was today. Will "settle" for the HD600 at BHPhoto, which I remember prefering to the HD650 by a small margin.

I just finished off some leftover Thai, but it wasn't curry.

I think you're the one that convinced me that they're like a "more fun" L3000, but I think I figured out on my own that they're easier to drive.

Deluxe Flat Pads for Grado Headphones
Dusty Chalk replied to NotoriousBIG_PJ's topic in Audio Accessories
Damn, that's too bad. I lost my Grado pads for my PS-1. I wonder if I can get replacements? That said, they're entirely different, I remember now why I replaced them. But I will obtain so that I can sell the PS-1 stock. -

It's probably some airborn rubber virus. HiWire -- you know you can get the Senn pads for it, right? -
AOIP (Audio over Ethernet) or is USB dead?
Dusty Chalk replied to astrostar59's topic in Home Source Components
Again, without knowing what was wrong with your previous system, just telling us it is better tells us it's better than broken, and that's not telling us much. Most of our systems aren't broken. USB is fine for transferring data -- think about a program, or an encrypted archive: it needs to be a perfect digital replica of itself after being transferred. If one bit is off -- one bit! -- it is considered corrupt. So the only thing left is timing. Jitter. Jitter just isn't that audible, not as night and day as you are describing. It's subtle, as Sechtdamon says. Not unless something was really really wrong, and you should have been able to hear a difference just by trying a third system. Look, I'm happy for you that it's so much better than your old system, but most of us wouldn't have put up with that shit. -

Wait, what? (wanders off...returns) Unholy carp, I didn't even notice.

You may well be one of the world's elite few cat herders. We have a colloquialism in American, "...like herding cats", used to describe an impossible task.

AOIP (Audio over Ethernet) or is USB dead?

Do you really think with language like that, that you should be the standard bearer for such an interface if it's that much better? I mean, even if it is better, you still sound like a snake oil salesman. You people with your "my statistical sample of 1 is adequate" -- no it's not! Not ever! Sure, maybe it's good enough for you to buy-in, but it's not good enough to tell other people to buy-in, just based on your word, what if your previous system was so crappy that AOIP couldn't help but be better? My first question in such a thing is, "if it's so great, why don't the pros use it?" So I looked. Seems to be just starting out and used almost exclusively for broadcast. Long runs. The standard for studio still seems to be AES3. Sometimes they'll add an extra clock. I'll wait until it matures somewhat. -
