It's not one timeline. As far as I can tell, there's three separate timelines: Ghost in the Shell/Innocence; Stand-Alone Complex/Solid State Society; and Arise/the New Movie. No, seriously, this may be the biggest spoiler I've ever spoiler tagged, so don't unspoiler-tag this unless you really really want to know: Best not to put too much thought into it, and just enjoy the sweet sweet beautiful visuals. PS Just finished it -- fucking glorious.

Ghost in the Shell: the New Movie (done by the same director who did the ...Arise... miniseries) -- this is great. Although, why couldn't they give it a more creative subtitle -- Arisen? Arise-er-er?. Favourite exchange so far: Togusa: If his body's dead, his Ghost dies with it. Logicoma 6A: Well that's just poor design! (Yes, ( a ) the tachikomas are back, and ( b ) they're called logicomas for some reason. ( c ) (unrelated) I'm going to use the analogy, "that's like explaining death to a logicoma".) Well I didn't. I had to look up neutron star and spot that it's diameter is approx. 30km. I thought they just left off the primary measurement. And/or expected us to just figure out what that was based on the math that was previously presented (because "intuitively obvious"...not). And: exactly.

The funny thing is, they didn't even mean "standard deviation of 20 km", they meant "approximately 20km".

Not cooking right now, but there were a lot of good tips in here: I'm curious if you all agree with the advice to take the oil well past it's smoke point -- that's not at all what I did. I also probably left too much oil on, as per the video.

I wonder if they still make anything like my Sony DVP-PQ1. It has a digital coaxial out (the main reason I got it, as most of them were optical): There aren't too many half-rack (that's what you're looking for, essentially) CD players. If you Google "half rack cd player", you get a bunch of Teacs, and a Rolls HR72, whatever that is. Tascam appears to have a couple of tall somethings, but they appear to be overkill, I'd stick with either the Rega or -- what I use to play all my silver disks -- the Oppo BDP-whatever-the-current-model-is. It's full-size, but I use the built-in DAC.

The only reason I can think is that it only plays CDs (I.E. not DVDs, SACDs, nor Blu-Rays), and I'm not sure it even plays CD-Rs (earlier Rega models had problems). But yes, it is an excellent transport, if all you're going to play are CDs. I've gotten to the point where I either rip the CD right away, or use the download (if it's Bandcamp/lossless). Then any old computer will do. Or my little portable Sony. There's probably one with a digital out that you can link up to a DAC or the Oppo DAC/amp. I understand that's not what you're asking, so feel free to ignore.

No worries, I have to admit, I never researched Blu-Tack, so was willing to be corrected, but it appears according to Stereophile that it dampens somewhat (Wikipedia cited this as a source, Blu-Tack is introduced on page 3): link. (I'll have to read the whole article later, seems interesting.) I was just going on intuition -- the best vibration conductor is going to be solid (resonances may actually amplify vibrations at certain frequencies) -- anything that "gives" is going to dampen somewhat, and ... I can just imagine trying to listen "through" Blu-Tack -- it would probably be extremely muffled. Hence I just assumed it was a dampener. Now, you may still be right -- maybe a thin enough amount would act as a conductor by keeping the two surfaces "glued" together -- I.E. coupled, but then the answer would be to use more. Or maybe at low frequencies it stops absorbing/dampening and starts acting like a conductor (all insulators would be frequency dependent, based on my research into soundproofing and sound insulation). I think more research is warranted.

That wasn't my understanding -- a spike would couple the speaker to whatever the speaker was on (speaker stand, floor, or, in your case, granite slabs). In your case, the decoupling occurs at the sorbothane pads. Think of it as insulation.

Isn't that coupling? Decoupling is blu-tak, cork, foam, or the like. The idea being if there are any floor-borne vibrations, they stop at the decoupling. Coupling is an entirely different school of thought, where you assume the earth is the most inert and try to keep as strong a coupling from there to the speakers to feed off that inertness. Supposedly the best decoupling method (conducts the least vibration) is sand, but that would still require other parts (a rigid stand on top of the sand or something).
