They forgot a lot of things: 46. A sun bed, to prevent (I has a) SADS. 47. A HEPA air filter 48. Prescription medicine 49. Distillery of some sort, or a brewery 50. A cat. Does not answer to "Boxxy", as a matter of fact, doesn't answer to anything. It's a cat. 51. A redhead 52. A brunette 53. Money (no place to spend it, but 10 years of income wouldn't be frowned at in 10 years) I'm curious about the choice of the porn star, Asian, and blonde -- would she be willing or unwilling? I don't think I'd want her if she was unwilling. But if she's a go-er...I don't think I'd even care if she didn't speak English. Also, why put specific people in at all, given # 39. Also, why consoles and no games, but movies do come with a Blu-Ray player? Yeah, not well thought out at all.

I noticed the 30/21 error also, but was too busy laughing at "Shenanigans" to remember to post.

Very nice pictures. I want you to do portrait shots of my cats.

next time when you have more time, have your people tell my people, we'll do lunch

Yeah, it's pretty loud, and your point is a good one. I do use headphones most of the time (in fact, back in the late 90's when I shared an office with a couple servers [not today-type servers, but just boosted up wintel machines with heavy duty fannage], that's how I got into closed headphones in the first place [went from a Sony MDR-V6/-7506 to a Beyerdynamic DT-770]). Your point is a good one -- it will be too loud for my taste, but it's only for that time between when it gets too warm after the a/c shuts off at 6 'til it gets cool enough again because of the ambient outside temperatures. Which is why I'm currently going with the Cube -- it's just not worth carrying more than that for just a little bit, and prettty soon it will be so cool that it won't ever be too warm to wear headphones. Which also makes me realize that carrying anything much bigger than a Cube (like the Equators) is complete overkill, so I won't. I've also been given a cubby away from the server as "spillover" (in other words, I don't have to use it). The downside is, it's in a shared office, so I'm really hesitant to use speakers when anyone else is around. Oh, and it's just 'Dusty' -- I actually do answer to that in real life.

I've been listening to dub techno in the background all night. My cat has started plucking the chair backs. It's kind of like dub techno.

It's like being outside -- it's bringing the outside in.

I may seriously have to consider the Equator D5's -- they come with their own carry case and tilt-up stands, plus coaxial drivers.

Did you go outside at all? It's a gorgeous day (was on the weekend, too, apparently -- I didn't go outside, myself, until just before sunset both days). I got three invites to DFHA's 3 octoberfest dinners. I'm tempted to tell them, "I'll come if there's cleavage".

Parasound Zamp + bookshelves or studio monitors for desktop listening
Dusty Chalk replied to shellylh's topic in Speakers
Absolutely -- it's the exact same idea as elevating them and pointing them down as I suggested, except that my way largely reduces the first reflection problem. -
It is my understanding that Google Maps should still work, it's just no longer the default mapping target app -- perhaps reinstall it?

Tommy Bolin, Ultimate Teaser, discs 2 & 3 -- great wanking wankiness, batman! Melikey. (Also, I forgot what a beautiful guitar tone he had.)

Parasound Zamp + bookshelves or studio monitors for desktop listening

Why is that? (Honest question -- I haven't ruled out an amp and passives for my setup.) -

The best nearfield speakers I ever had were the Dynaudio Special Twenty-Fives (speaking of being a bit bigger than normal desktop speakers and not being bass shy). I need to recreate that setup (I still have them, just haven't put them up since I moved). But that, of course, is a several thousand dollar setup. The second best was the Quad 12L's. So I say, use the AudioEngines until you can get the Quad fixed. I know you kind of hate it right now, but what if this is the last fix for a long time? It's also the least outlay. Moar money for tunes, whiskey, and beer. Basically, listening in nearfield rocks. Pretty much everything sounds good, because you don't have to turn it up as loud, therefore the excursions are smaller and therefore more linear. So pretty much everything will sound good. I'm a huge Focal fan, so endorse the idea of going Focal. They also have some more traditional looking monitors that start on the small end at $350-ish, I think. And go up to the several thousand dollar Beryllium Utopian-based monitors. I'll get those if I ever win the lottery, but I honestly haven't heard any of them. Dynaudios have some that are programmable -- I.E. they can be made to sound good based on where they are, like the Meridians (except I don't think Meridians make desktop or even nearfield speakers). I think they're the BM-5A's? Also, something you can try -- this worked for me -- is that I had the speakers above the monitor and pointed down (in the case of the Dynaudio Special Twenty-Fives) -- if you have one of those secretary - style computer desks, this has a lot of benefits. Also, don't pay too much attention to where the port is. How close the speaker is to the wall and accommodating for that is much more important. Bass frequencies quickly become more omnidirectional, even with traditional speakers. -
Hey Head-Case, what's your bandwidth like?

I'm not looking for audiophile. I'm looking for something I can actually turn up a little bit without it distorting, to overcome the fan noise of the server. I'm actually thinking MiniRigs or something. I don't care if it's colored -- the Cube is colored in a very specific way, but I kind of like it. I'm kind of regretting getting the Cubes over the UCubes, mostly because of the ability to use two of them (two of them -- even if I can't get stereo separation -- will still be able to go louder than one of them, but don't know if that applies to Cubes vs. UCubes). I mean, you'd have to stack a lot of Spendor S3/5's together before you could go as loud as one Quad 12L, so if one Cube is better than a pair of UCubes, then I'm fine with it, but I still want to go a bit louder. So yeah, Mini Maggies are out. And yeah, I didn't post that before, because I kind of didn't realize it until just now. I kept turning it up when I went into the kitchen, then turning it down because it was annoying. I certainly can't go loud with the laptop speakers. And yes, I do realize it's a trade-off between drivers and weight, because more drivers ==> goes louder well, but there are small drivers that go plenty loud well (Dynaudio's Esotar 2 comes to mind), so that's what I need to figure out. That's kind of why I thought about the Gallos -- they're supposed to be satellites, so they should go loud well.

Sweet. Sounds very homey. I actually got shit done at work today, myself. I love rainy weather. I feel energized.
-
Pfff -- no. I think the Mini Maggies are at least still in the same weight category.

Dani Joss, Liquid Photography -- I need to find anything out there like this (especially the first and third tracks). It's rare that I can use the word "earworm" on something that can also be described as "sparse", "minimalistic" and having zots of "ambiance". Also, Daemonia Nymphe - Remixed, various artists, including Dani Joss, albeit less minimal
-
Because if I can come up with a container for them, then -- BLAMMO -- portable.

Wow, flashbacks.
