They don't (make sense to me neither, that is). I don't understand at all how the (current) DSP-corrected JH-13's can sound any different than (current) DSP-corrected JH-16's. Don't they both have ranges well outside of human hearing? Phase delay and psychology notwithstanding.

No-one expects their first batch to be good enough to share, so the fact that it was is a good sign, but not all that surprising considering the source. That pasta dish sounds really good, too. I had an outstanding dish earlier tonight at Tommy Thai. It started out as their "garden" (meat and vegetables), then made extremely garlicky and medium spicy. Outstanding. (Dan -- that's in Springfield -- I've also discovered a really great place in Merrifield called Elephant Jumps that I can highly recommend.)

Did something to my shoulder last night, didn't sleep well last night as a result. Got up at sunrise. Fed the cats. Finally got comfortable at 10am. Slept until 4. went to dinner and movies with friend. All in all, a good day for someone who's geezin'.

Reminiscent of more recent ELO (e.g., Zoom) and his work with Traveling Wilburys. I.E. less "electronic", no violin flourishes, and a more general Beatles-y-ness to the songwriting. Me: Can't decide, was listening to Stevie Wonder earlier, not sure whether to go back to IAMX...will probably nix all and watch Sherlock.

No, no, this is awesome! You could have a FOTM club, where, just like those record clubs in the 70's, we'd get a new headphone every month, and if we didn't fill out the card and send it back, then we'd get charged for the full price of the headphones. Uh, no, fail. You'd basically need to provide the same service with headphone amps. At the very least, find some good entry level amp like a HeadAmp Pico or something. But I would recommend things like the Benchmark and the Grace audio m903, too. I mean, think of it this way -- would you rent speakers? Okay, yes you would if they were PA speakers, but no you wouldn't if they were audiophile speakers. Same difference. EDIT: I am not familiar with the FiiO, so feel free to tell me it's not crap. I've been both pleasantly and unpleasantly surprised by some entry level items I've had time with. My one experience with NuForce, for example, is surprisingly good.

We had that exact same discussion about something else (this is a favourite quote of mine): You'll find a lot more to like about him, I started a list and gave up. Ironically, Chasm City is the only one of his older books that I haven't read. I put it off because even though it's not related, events are referenced in Redemption Ark. I'm hoping to forget them by the time I get to it. Me: finished Ashes of Honor -- I liked it as much as I liked the rest of her books. It was slightly more upbeat than, for example, her darker moments, which was a nice change of pace. It was like the puppet episode of Angel...well, no, not that light, but you get the idea. Perhaps the musical episode of Buffy. I don't know, bad analogy.

You're going to want to read everything by him, so just read them in order. So, Chasm City. I quite enjoyed House of Suns, for similar reasons. That was superb. It might still be my favourite by him. If you just want moar awesome, Pushing Ice is probably the only other one that ( a ) could safely be read out of order, although a lot of them are unrelated, and ( b ) is as outstanding. Also, my third favourite of his (Century Rain probably being second).
