  1. See pic -- looks like the wood might flex a little bit, but I suspect that's undesirable -- I would treat it as a hard constraint.
  2. Those suggestions might be alright if he was single, but I'm sure he's going to want to share that experience once in a while. Focal XS 2.1? (a) They may be "voiced" for the nearfield since they're meant to be desktop speakers, (b ) not sure if they will go loud enough well, and (c ) don't know if they turn sideways well. Ditto Gallo Stradas (which also aren't active). Though they would be small enough. Does KRK have anything that small? I'm sure there are lots of actives in the professional and home/project studio market, I just happen to like KRK. And Mackie, but I know they don't have anything that small. Tannoy? Center channel speakers might work well there, but they aren't usually active -- I.E. two mid/bass's and a tweeter in d'onofrio...d'appolito (or however it's spelled) configuration. And a lot of professional/home studio/project speakers are designed to be oriented either way. M-Audio might have something that small. Just do something custom with a couple of cheap full-range drivers, so that you don't get weird edge effects (doubly so -- once for the speaker ending, and another for the hole starting).
  3. Happy Birthday, Ari!
  4. Jesus.
  5. Not yet, but I'll be trying it shortly.
  6. I understand you were trying to get the first 75% with the first copy, but with the second, third, and fourth copies?
  7. This is somewhat of an ironic response, considering grawk has purchased the same record multiple times to try to get that last 5% out of it. I'm with you, Wayne. I still need a good transfer of From Dusk Til Dawn (which, admittedly, does not entirely fall under the "character-driven" moniker) to high-def.
  8. I grew up with this stuff. Those of you who know me will find the following story amusing: I used to be an alter boy, and besides that, I also occasionally sang in the church choir. I know, right?
  9. Woot Off @ woot.com, wine.woot, & kids.woot.
  10. Koyaanisqatsi slowitupped 10x ...'cause, you know, the original wasn't slow and ambient enough.
  11. Does it taste like Sweden?
  12. First the pic, which immediately got my attention: It's a portable player AND a DAC. Discuss. (I saw it in the current [May 2011] issue of Hi-Fi Choice.)
  13. I know that chin from somewhere. It's one of the actors from 90210 or something really horrid like that. Has three names. Help me out. (wanders off) Tiffani-Amber Thiessen?
  14. (inserts "Deal With It" text into the blindfold pic)
  15. (1) That's rough. (1.5) Sweet. (2) So does that fall under bestiality, masturbation, or BDSM? (3) Did you beat it, or did it beat you? (4) "...and then I went to play pin the tail on the donkey..." (5) Have you not? EDIT: (6) Zen question: do you reacharound? (7) That's an interesting way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. (8 ) Before, or after? (9) Missionary, doggy style, or other? Yes, I know, I'm putting way too much thought into this.
  16. Me, too. Especially picture, but not necessarily to the exclusion of other aspects of the product.
  17. Buh? You're making your own wine now too?
  18. It's obviously Denise Crosby from ST:NG.
  19. CJ -- what's the expression? Lucky in cards, unlucky in love. :\ Tyrion -- congrats to your daughter, that's awesome!
  20. 3" drivers? I don't know, man, sounds like you'd have to listen to them really quietly to get any sort of linearity out of it. I mean, yeah, you can't know until you've heard it for yourself, but...I wouldn't have.
  21. Postman Always Rings Twice -- "It's the best echo I ever heard."
  22. I suspect there's something distracting on that side. Perhaps the audience.
  23. Spent some time with my mother, sister, and cousin. Win.
  24. Happy belated!
  25. Happy Birthday, Shelly!
