2 headphones at a time
Three issues -- impedance mismatch, sensitivity mismatch, and different listening levels. So potentially you'll have an impedance mismatch, so try to pick phones of similar impedance. There could still be variations at certain frequencies that peak or dip at the same time, making things worse for the amp, and exaggerate a frequency issue that wasn't there with just one. Unlikely, but potentially a problem. Sensitivity issue -- same results, slightly different cause (albeit related). Listening levels -- previously discussed and self explanatory, I would hope. We actually had this problem when we were doing some listening tests with an EAR headphone amp. The Sennheisers were much less sensitive than the Grados, so the person listening to the Sennheisers was at a disadvantage at being able to hear differences, much less anything. I have a reputation for listening at an entire notch lower than anyone else, but the difference was too much even for me. So don't think that you can necessarily cancel out the third problem with a judicious choice of headphones.

Some Test Results (SE vs Balanced vs Portable SE)
Okay, so you just multiplied everything by a constant -- that's not the same as digital compression normalization.

Speaker Amp recommendation
Wait what? No! Don't dew et.

Can you believe this shit...damn
Actually, I do. Just don't test me -- my passive is much better than my active.

Deepak -- you need to track down "...And the Reindeer You Rode In On" -- it'd be more up your alley

Stupid pheasant. Or quail. Or whatever it is.

CNET's Greatest Headphones
I disagree, they're plug'n'play if you buy a system (earspeaker/amp combo).

"Grim optimism" T-shirts from woot. I was hoping that one would win the derby. Huzzah.

cary sli-80 vs sli-80 f1
It sounds great with certain phones, but I agree with the "too much" comment -- only recommended if you have the equivalent of a sweet tooth for the overly tubey sound.

Wait...that was a viral ad for Wanted?!?!? I never put that together.

Some Test Results (SE vs Balanced vs Portable SE)
I'm not sure I understand -- what do you mean by, "you normalized the audio"? Is that the volume matching that you described, or do you mean normalization in the digital compression sense?

ATH-AD1000PRM, ATH-ESW10JPN
No, you're fine. Postwhore was a reference to someone else entirely ("best big head there ever was").

What did you do today?
Ah. And: love the invention and use of "Postjackian".

What did you do today?
Well, it doesn't sound like much of a very profitable "record label", then, now does it?

Sounds like it's worth at least auditioning, then. Thanks!

How has your rig changed in 2008? And do you have any plans for 2009?
I have two separate systems -- one for shiny disks, the other for the computer (and a third speaker system) -- just at my office. "Systems" is such a transient word for me.

Nice. Now you need to buy a pair of Mk 2 pads...

I can't imagine a lawyer would want to get mixed up in a bootleg house.

CNET's Greatest Headphones
If you liked them, then yes, they were. I think the D5000 -- other than build quality issues -- is a completely under-rated phone. I remember liking it, and have heard nothing since then to convince me otherwise.

That's too bad, entertainment value was priceless. I'm not arguing against the perma-ban -- the "renewing" account was definitely perma-ban worthy.
