Alright, both cables did it this time. Next time the battery discharges, I'm going to reformat it for windows (complete different computer). I only just got the thing, so it should still be under warranty. Question -- is there a way to modify the cable so that it doesn't charge, but one can still transfer songs onto it?

You really can't get much cheaper -- just use the analog outputs from your computer, if you're that desperate/impatient/cheap/tiddlywinks.

EDIT: First of all, yeezh. I got an XtremeMac TuffWrap for my iPod, which I'm very happy with. (a) The silicone actually makes it harder to drop, due to its no-slip surface; ( and it provides a modicum of cushioning when I do anyway. I have no idea how that would translate to an iPhone/iTouch.

Chinese: Starting out with egg rolls, then it's a choice of chicken with black bean sauce, or with hot garlic sauce (and then the remaining will be eaten as leftovers tomorrow).
