  1. I honestly can't believe how shoddy the inside looks. I mean, sure it's not a $30k player (the only other APL guts I've seen), but that just looks like a hack job. Glad it sounds good, I'm nor surprised that it might be the "best digital" you're heard.
  2. I honestly don't know what modules the HR had (I am pretty sure they weren't max modules, as I know they sound better than that, and use too much power to run off batteries).
  3. Funny you should ask. At last weekend's Bay Area meet, this was the comparison going on at my PC. Pico plugged into one USB port, Headroom Portable Desktop plugged into another. Every person I talked to came away stating the Pico sounded significantly better, FWIW. I didn't listen to the Headroom too much, but it certainly had a darker sound, and was a bit more blurred/muddled sounding, compared to what I am used to from the Pico. Granted, it did have more volume reserves, and drove the K340 a bit better than the Pico, but considering it has a battery larger than the entire Pico, it probably should have.
  4. Nice silver stack there, you're going after ASR's crown of silver gear goodness! From what I've heard out of the HD2 in the past, I've liked it quite a lot, more than the ZD or Nautilus (but then again, transformer coupled is just more my style). However, my listening to the Millet came out of the Meridian 818, whereas I've not heard the HD2 from such a source. So my somewhat biased comparison gives the edge to the Millet, but I wouldn't be surprised if they sounded pretty close from the same source.
  5. Getting the day warmed up with some K340's! Then it's time to dive straight into the Millet monster! BlessingX had a nice roundup of Stax present: But I most liked the swanky SR5's: One of the bevy of B22's on hand: And the interior of another: ASR's new CD player, and its' monstrous remote! Gettin' 'em started young! Hopefully they each get a Pico for their next birthday! The crowd intensifies around the Blue Hawaii once Neilvg landed with the APL: BlessingX puts the numbers rig through its' paces: Ti's latest landmark, the B24! Amphead gets ready to boogie with his self-built guitar: Numbers gives the florida gang a piece of our action: One of the more striking Darth Beyers: Time to inspect the Blue Hawaii:
  6. I'm definitely up for it if I manage to find myself there that day
  7. It has been fun, although you have yet to eat your knock-off Hostess cupcakes I got you! Many more in good health, my friend. Cheers!
  8. I volunteer Ken and I to host your goodies, #'s.
  9. I'll be packing a liver, and a 1TB drive full o' music, so we'll have no lack of software for your Slimdevices gear!
  10. Does anyone have a place I can crash Friday night?
  11. Mother of holy christbudda! Now I really can't wait for this weekend, if just to see this monolith in person, let alone listen to it!
  12. I have only had this problem with Stax 404 and their brethren, alas none of my AT's have suffered this fate, so there's nothing I can recommend first-hand.
  13. So Justin is coming fo sho? I will have to be there Friday as well!
  14. [snore] Now it's basically a Grace 902 with a better DAC, worse headphone amp, and worse ergonomics/fit and finish. Woohoo! But if you have everyone convinced that the DAC1's level of performance as a DAC is "good enough" for the price, why bother improving it?
  15. I can only think of one Beatles song off the top of my head that I enjoy, whereas I can think of several Stones tunes. Decision made.
  16. like the new Avatar, Dusty! I already have visions of Stonehenge dancing in my head!
  17. Yeah that looks like the one. I'd get a larger one if you intend to put anything larger than PX100's in it, though BTW the same line of cases are also sold under the Promaster brand in other camera shops.
  18. Sounds like it would have to be the battery, I don't think there's anything else particularly heavy in there.
  19. Yeah, I'm inclined to think that I'm a freak for loving these keyboards (among many other reasons), as I've yet to meet anyone else who likes them. In fact, I only ever tried one years ago because a friend was going to throw out the split keyboard he bought on ebay. What's really odd is that I find typing on a laptop keyboard to be no problem, but most "standard" desktop keyboards annoy me. What I really hate are the new super-skinny stock keyboards that Dell ships with their cheapo tower systems. Bleh!
  20. I'll bring a telescope with me to the top of Mt Baldy and keep a critter lookout for ya
  21. Certainly! Heck, I spend more time taking pics, than listening to gear at these shindigs lately.
  22. Tell me about it! The HE60/KGSS setup packed in many zingers. The HE60 is the only headphone that's ever made me enjoy the 007t. Now if you want to talk dark, we're talking OII+007t. The OII/KGSS is very nicely balanced to my ears.
