  1. I don't want to take it into the lab, I want to have it at my desk, not in the secure area.
  2. The VTGs are pretty easy on headphone amps, so maybe it's good enough. /me starts budgeting. Or maybe I'll get the M4 I was promised ages ago?
  3. So prior to my current job, I'd never have considered plugging a hard drive into a bluray player as being preferable to having a media server. That said, NOW I'd do it. Stupid "you can't bring a non-gov't owned computer, or anything with internet access to work" rule. So yah, I'd love it if the oppo played alac from a usb connected hard drive. Someone make that happen, please. I'd spend the $1000 on the oppo, plus money on the headphone amp (why did I sell my g-lite?)..maybe if I bring in the mini and apogee, but turn off wifi they'll allow it?
  4. Or just play the music on your computer, and use the oppo as a dac.
  5. Do they pay you for the advertising? If not, you should approach them and offer your services.
  6. Apparently think tank has a new 13" laptop + gadget bag coming out next week (heavily implied by a company rep in a thread on engadget)
  7. done
  8. I had an irish white cheddar tonight

    thanks, purchased.
  10. danké
  11. Passed my Linux+ cert, thus clearing the last beaurocratic hurdle to being able to do my job.
  12. prosit!

  14. I'm ok with the new screen. I would have hated it if they'd made it any wider. It's right at the cusp of too wide for my pockets already. Adding 1/2" to the length is a reasonable compromise. Any wider and it's a tablet, not a phone.
  15. I haven't noticed a difference on my last couple of iPhones. Perhaps it's level matching or confirmation bias?
  16. You have a true, variable line out in the headphone jack. Given that it went through an opamp either way it hardly seems to matter. I imagine we'll see more dac/amps going forward.
  17. I don't know what you were expecting. It's got better battery life, it's thinner, lighter, faster, with a better screen. It's better in every way. It doesn't do things that don't make a phone a better experience. They didn't do lte last time because the chipsets for lte then sucked, as did lte market penetration. If you want a feature list, you buy the new htc crapphone, if you want better, you buy the iPhone. I generally see every other iPhone as being a step worth upgrading for, which makes sense, given the 2 year contract you sign to get one.
  18. I want the new nex6 and the a99
  19. Right. But this does AAC but doesn't do alac and aiff.
  20. I'm just doubting the veracity of the information, because rather than the actual encumbered format (AAC), they listed the two that aren't.
  21. I use my Verizon iPad3 as a hotspot and it works pretty well. Just have to watch your usage. I also have a Clear ispot I could give you. If you can activate it, it's $25 a month unlimited 4g.
  22. ALAC is released under the apache license, which definitely doesn't restrict commercial use. AIFF is completely open, and is unencumbered by any licensing restrictions at all
  23. Except there are open source codecs available for both aiff and alac.
