Yup, I used to buy at the front of the consumer curve, and figured out I was much happier given how long I own stuff if I just buy the oldest thing that fits my needs. You save enough to upgrade twice as often if you buy at the end of the curve rather than the beginning.
it's not "need", it's just where you start seeing hte full benefit. So at that distance, you get the most "immersion". The closest to a theater experience. The goal is to have the TV take up more than you can see in your direct vision.
Well, for sports, it's true that bigger is better. And for movies. And tv.
You want the biggest tv possible that doesn't look bad at your viewing distance.
