Steve Hoffman/Kevin Gray Blue Note Remasters to be Released on SACD!
I'd love to have those BN reissues, both music maters and acoustic sounds. But my income just got cut by 1/3th... bummer!

DIY TT newb ?
Start searching TT brands! VPI, REGA, Clearaudio, and so on. Some of these have the bearing, others sell platters. You can find some parts this way. Search google for DIY turntables, motors, motor controlers... It really depends on how much DIY you want. You can build a motor controller board, or buy a motor and PSU from a manufacturer, like rega for instance. (I'm not sure they sell motors though)

New TTVJ FET-A Headphone Amp / Preamp
But oh mighty Voltron, if it looks good, it MUST sound goooooooooood!!! The "shinyness" reflects the sound waves directly into your brain!! It's sooooo obvious!!!

New TTVJ FET-A Headphone Amp / Preamp
Well, looks don't really have any impact on sound quality right? Yeah, no bling... here all the $$$ goes inside!! ps: I also like to have nicer looking stuff, but I understand Pete and Todd's thinking behind their products!

Torpedo, if you need I can build your boards, in case your friend can't. I'm right next door to you so shipping shouldn't be a problem. I could even take the trip, Spain's always a pleasure to visit!

Audio Engine A5. Any other options?
Thanks for all the replies. They don't have to be powered speakers, but I guess that in the price range it will be hard to find a combo of speakers and amp that beats a pair of powered speakers. These will be used in the living room, probably for one or two years until he can afford a better setup (then yes, separate amplifier and speakers, probably floor mounts with a nice amp.) then they'll move to the office or bedroom. I'll check those brands you recomend and also used gear in Lisbon. Might find a good deal. I also saw these: Vifa Speaker Kit at 59$ for the kit it looks like a killer deal. I have woodshop at home so I have tools and enough knowledge to build these. Paired with a gainclone could be a great budget speaker. Must check into that as well.

My brother just moved and needs some speakers. He's not really deep into audio, but does like to listen to music. Budget is around 500

Guys, if you need any sourcing of parts in europe I can certainly help. Or anything else for that matter. And if the I/O board idea goes ahead, I might want one or two, if you're willing to order a few more. Manuel

Thanks for the details! Looks like a really nice amp, both visually and spec wise!

KECES HA-171 Headphone Amp/Pre Amp.
Nice layout and internals! Just one question? Why isn't the output 1/4 jack mounted inthe same blue PCB? Just curious. Can you share a bit more about the basic topology? It looks like opamp input stage followed by a discrete output stage? Mosfets under that big heatsink?

Story of the Mullard Blackburn factory
Great Video! Never imagined those factories would be so big!!!

Story of the Mullard Blackburn factory
I don't like the price of NOS Mullard EL34's. I'm ordering current production ones as well as NOS Siemens for the output stage of my SFC-1 integrated amp! The old ones are turning blue...

Official Head-Case Thread to help fix Icarium's SP amp
I'm in too! It's really sad to see business going down like singlepower, I remember listening to his amps at headfest 07 and some sounded great! I'll donate some cash if we go that way! Manuel ps: I make great pizza, but shipping it overseas doesn't seem reasonable... I could ship some Port Wine!!(the real deal, not that California stuff.. :cool)

Least favorite parts etc.
Can't wait to see that B22, that board looks really great!
-
All purpose B22
Nate, the B22 is also overkill in terms of power for headphones, the M3 would be more than enough for most headphones. The M3, does indeed have better measurements than the B22, but then why do people consider the B22 a better amplifier (at least for headphones) than the M3? I mean, don't the B22 design principles and advantages for headphone amplification apply to pre-amplification? Not trying to be an ass, just didn't understand your POV.

Monsoon Computer Speakers
These look quite interesting! I had never heard of them. Does anyone know if these were ever sold in Europe? About those Mini magnepans, here's a picture: http://blog.stereophile.com/ces2009/fooled_ya/ THey were being powered by 700W monoblocks?? Do planar speakers need that much power? I could imagine a balanced B22 driving those in a desktop setup...
