  1. In and done
  2. http://app.strava.com/activities/197788611 17.7 mph moving speed.I'm sure I'll lose it as more people upload but Strava says I'm 7th overall for the event.
  3. Halfway through. Average over 19. Let's see if I survive.
  4. Century tomorrow could be rough. I have been fighting a cold all week and gradually getting sicker. Just went for our usual Saturday morning stroll with the family and I feel like I should after about 5 hours on the bike.
  5. Yeah. I want the D9TX dive watch but I haven't gone diving in a decade or more. It's just very cool.
  6. I got rid of my stupid activity tracking watch and I've been rotating through my Zenith El Primero, Breitling Emergency and Suunto Ambit 2 on a daily basis. Each one is different but I think I probably like tha Ambit the best.
  7. Happy birthday!
  8. Happy Belated Birthday!
  9. Less than a week to go. Went out for a ride yesterday and ended up hooking up with a group ride and it turned out that a bunch of the people are doing this event and even at the pace I'm planning. I guess I'll sort of know some people now
  10. Yeah my Comcast has been really spotty recently. I get the 105+ they claim at times but other times I get 1.5. WTF.
  11. Thanks for all the generous support guys! You rule!
  12. My wife was hoping to do a fundraiser sometime this year for the American Cancer Society in memory of her mom who passed away about 3 years ago. Unfortunately I knocked her up and she never had opportunity to do any major event. So I'm stepping in and using the ACS Events tool to raise money for my ride on September 21st 2014. The event is the Back Roads Century (http://www.backroadscentury.org/). It's a moderate century and not as epic as some of the other people around here have completed recently but it still should be fun and I hope you guys and gals can help me raise money for a good cause. The donation link is here: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/Chris_Kent
  13. I pretty much think it's harmless fun on a fair game thing. It's been an onging thing since the tour where he was helping Brad Wiggins. YMMV
  14. Raffy, having spent some time in a peloton (a lot slower peloton) it's a spoken rule that you keep your eyes forward as much as possible, as in if you stare at it too much someone usually says something line "keep your eyes on the fucking road". It avoids crashes and when you crash in a peloton you usually take out other people. Froome looks down a lot but he also doesn't crash much, but that may be his protected rider status. I will say though that if everyone in the pro peloton rode like him we'd have a lot more crashes. I think it's totally fair game.
  15. XL. I am a big guy. Edit: I meant to say that as I'm a big guy it can prove difficult to sell stuff.
  16. ^ Ouch! That kind of thing is why I am not interested in Mountain Biking anymore
  17. Sorry Jeff that sounds pretty shitty. I guess I can take solace that if I dont succeed in finding a buyer I can just keep it in my basement indefinitely.
  18. Cool. Thanks, just sent a request to join. I will also post with my team but I doubt I'll find any takers.
  19. Anyone have recommendations on where to try and sell mountain bikes in the DC area? MORE or just Craigslist or somewhere else? I've pretty much decided that I don't really want to learn how to be a good mountain bike rider and I currently suck at it. Anyone have a friend who wants a 2011 FS XC 29er? I'll get my offroad/fire road fix with a cross bike if I need to. I'm currently thinking of just buying a cheap Giant TCX SLR 1 with 11 speed Shimano 105 and mechnical disc brakes because my shop will give me a great price and they have them in stock now. I know I'd be better with hydraulics if I was riding it a lot but for doing the C&O canal ride etc I think it will be just fine and it's good enough to figure out if I like cross racing.
  20. As other's have said nice work Ben. A two century weekend is awesome! Sounds like both of them were an adventure. I've always wanted to do an brevet at some point. These guys do a bunch of different from 200km to 1000+km events: http://dcrand.org/dcr/ Maybe next year we should try and push the envelope. I personally would like to try for a 200km with the goal of a 300km event. That said I need more time on the bike to get my body used to it again. My "second century" was hiking around the National Zoo for 4 hours with a 40 lb baby carrier and baby combination on my back. It was not in the same league but it was some good exercise.
  21. Depressing that they aren't in business anymore.
  22. Nice work Nate. I've been there with the cramps etc and it's no fun. I really like Nuun for keeping me from getting them. After this weekend's century I'm now trying to decide between A (18-20) and BB (16-18) groups for the coming ride. I am pretty sure I can hang with the A but I am doubting myself. Edit: Decided to play it safe and make sure I finish and do BB. I also set up a fundraising website through the American Cancer Society in Memory of Meaghan's mom: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/Chris_Kent
  23. Had a very nice hot ride this morning. My buddy got through his first century and I had a nice easy ride in general. Feeling good for the Back Roads Century in 2 weeks, http://app.strava.com/activities/190780073 http://adventures.garmin.com/en-US/by/dreadhead/lakes-and-grapes-century/
  24. ^ That is good advice. For example: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/fuo/4649423044.html Lots of other listings. I'm sorely tempted by a stained but fully functional Leap v2 for $100. We already have a Bissel spot cleaner at the house because of the kids.
  25. I have nothing to do with this but looking at this thread makes me think of a bunch of pool sharks that "suck" at pool
