  1. Would've been cool to see you Gene but my trip itinerary was hectic for the 5 days I was in FL. Could definitely make it out to the next TamJam though. Pics below from the 1st day of the trip. In-camera JPGs (I shot in RAW+JPG) - couldn't be bothered to work from the RAWs yet, too many pics. 2nd pic is the Sunshine Skyway Bridge as it approaches Bradenton. All pics were taken in the vicinity of one of the fishing piers off the bridge.
  2. Well a review of the Tokina 11-16 that I read mentioned that slim filters are recommended (either that or no filters), so that's what I got. Lens is still in stock at B&H, you know you want to buy one.
  3. Priscilla Ahn - When You Grow Up. Not really a huge departure from her debut CD, I'd call it more of the same - not that it's a bad thing.
  4. Just 3 more weeks until the THE show in SoCal, who's going? My schedule for that weekend has since freed up but not sure I'm going. If a group of HC'ers is planning on being there that could definitely tip the scales for me. I saw HeadRoom is going to be there and Tyll's supposed to give a seminar there too so craziness is guaranteed! I've been getting their marketing newsletters btw and they have some other stuff going on too:
  5. Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 (Nikon mount) and B+W 77mm XS-Pro 010m UV filter Tokina's still in stock at B&H too. They just got their stock in a couple of days ago, I thought it'd have sold out again by now.
  6. Not sure what sort of speakers you're looking for (active or passive), but I have a pair of satellites (in black) from my former old Cambridge Soundworks PC Works system if you want 'em for the cost of shipping. Dimensions are ~3" on all sides, here's a pic: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005Z28H.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg (I have the mini "stands" too btw.) I'd offer the subwoofer unit too but one of the channels blew out on it (which is why I stopped using it).
  7. I'll throw in these recs for ambient-style electronica: Phutureprimitive, Trifonic, & Tripswitch. (They each have only one major released album.) Been doing a lot of listening to them over the last few months, can never get enough. The Phutureprimitive CD is actually more DNB than ambient (as it has lots of active bass rhythms), but the other two are well into ambient territory. Can't even pick a favorite between the three, they're all really good IMO.
  8. Pics from a weekend trip to Tampa/Sarasota, these are from Busch Gardens. First out-of-state trip where I finally shot in RAW too, have a ton of pics to fix up where the exposure was less than stellar. Posting this batch first since I don't anticipate changing the exposure much, if at all.
  9. Photoshop CS5 is also pretty expensive compared to Lightroom. But to put it simply, most people (i.e., even photographers for example) don't need CS5. CS5 is like a kitchen-sink image & graphics editor and packs a high learning curve to boot. Lightroom is more of a workflow-type app that will help organize your photo files and how you work with them while retaining some of the more-useful features from CS5. Lots of info to be found on the subject if you Google "photoshop vs lightroom". Heh, I almost didn't see that. But to correct that part on a technicality, Photoshop isn't really a drawing program. Adobe's other app Illustrator is a drawing program, as is the other main competitor, CorelDRAW. If you're looking for drawing programs the feature to look for is called "vector graphics" and CorelDRAW is actually better than Adobe's app in that aspect.
  10. You sure you want the S95? I have the Lumix LX5 and find it infinitely better to handle. Had the S90 previously (S95 is same size) which I thought was too small. The LX5 also has a rubber grip and is a lot easier to shoot in manual mode with. Agreed, no one reputable is selling the S95 for less than MSRP, so might as well get it from either B&H or J&R since they have free shipping.
  11. Nikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 lens B+W Kaesemann MRC 67mm circular polarizer B+W MRC UV 010 F-Pro 67mm filter small otter case and replacement 48" cable for JH13 (tiny part of current cable broke off recently) Dang Ric, you've been on a buying spree lately.
  12. More Asspona coverage: http://www.enjoythemusic.com/axpona_2011/ http://www.thevinylanachronist.blogspot.com/ And hey they're doing another show in NYC in June! (24-25 to be exact, at the Affinia Hotel in mid-town) http://www.axponanyc.com/

Jude announced HDTracks' new hi-res binaural recording "Explorations In Space And Time" over at HF: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/550220/chesky-records-makes-a-high-rez-album-for-head-fi-ers-in-binaural There's a discount code at the bottom of his post #1.
  14. Stereophile's coverage: http://www.stereophile.com/category/axpona-2011 Looking forward to impressions from you guys. Wish I could've been there.
  15. Alison Krauss & Union Station - Paper Airplane [Deluxe Edition] (only at Target's site or stores) http://alisonkrauss.com/news/alison-krauss-union-station-partner-target-deluxe-edition-paper-airplane Wish I'd known about the Deluxe Edition earlier. Also one of the other new releases this week, Elbow's Build a Rocket Boys!
  16. Alison Krauss & Union Station - Paper Airplane Grabbed my copy at lunch ($9.99 at Best Buy), have already listened to it twice. Not really what I was expecting, admittedly. Similar atmosphere to Raising Sand - it has that otherworldly steeped-in-time quality in a place away from the rest of the world. No fast numbers either - overall a slower, dreamy, & intimate vibe throughout, kinda similar to Forget About It, but with more of a surreal quality. Still a really good album though, the atmosphere is killer. And of course Alison's voice just enhances the whole thing too. Awesome stuff! They're performing on Letterman tomorrow night (4/13) btw. And they're also on tour this year! The tour info is up over at alisonkrauss.com.

    Deals

'Bout time for another Elusive Disc sale, been too long since the last one. In related news I saw that the Legacy 180G LPs of Kind of Blue and Jeff Buckley's Grace finally came out recently....
  18. Just a heads-up for this year's RSD on 4/16: http://www.recordstoreday.com/SpecialReleases Lots of special releases on vinyl in particular.
  19. Ok no offense Larry but what part of "What Happens in Head-Case stays in Head-Case" don't you understand? This isn't the first time this has happened either, please stop doing it. Also you could have seen that the answer to your question was plainly obvious before you asked it.
  20. The SR-507 is pretty dang good. I just sold my HD800 for it. It's more of what I wanted the HD800 to be, but wasn't. Different enough from the OII too for me to use it for different music.
  21. You don't really "get" HC if you think post-count matters here. It has nothing to do with self-importance. Most people on HC know each other and the familiarity breeds friendly irreverence. Non-friendly irreverence gets shot down because frankly if you did that in real-life, who wouldn't get shot down? Do you go into someone's house and start insulting him before you get to know him? I don't know what kind of info you're looking for here either, unless maybe you're looking for info on beer & spirits. If you're looking for opinions on headphone stuff, there's more than you can shake a stick at over at HF for that.
  22. Sweet car pics Jeff, I especially like the red Lamborghini. On another subject, anyone know of good sites to sell cameras? (Looking to sell my two unused DSLRs.) Have an eBay account but I'm sure there have to be better sites for selling photography gear, right?
  23. Ok so I had to check my archives for pics that were actually hand-held at 1/4 sec (or longer, even), but I found some to post. mid-town Manhattan @ 1/4 sec downtown Seattle @ 0.62 sec downtown Seattle #2 @ 1/2 sec
